Hi everyone,

I'm looking for an apartment and I was wondering if anyone could give me more information about Middletown apartments--specifically the West Lake area. I know there have been threads about this in the past, but they are a little out of date and I was wondering if anyone familiar with the area now has any insight into the quality/safety of the apartments (I would be looking at the more affordable end of the spectrum, like Ridgefield Apartments or Hunter's Crossing).

I was looking for apartments in Branford since I work near Old Saybrook, but it didn't work out and Middletown seemed to be the next best bet since there don't appear to be many apartment complexes on the shoreline.

Any info. you can give would be great. Thanks so much!

Middletown Ridge imo is very nice. if it wasn't i wouldn't have been here for almost 6 yrs. the only complaint i have is my idiot neighbor but that's a crap shoot no matter where you go. the place is always full and from what i've seen people tend to stay here at least 2 yrs. of course you get the occasional malcontent but again that happens everywhere. and another plus - in my case, my rent hasn't been increased a penny since i moved in. the management company rewards loyalty by not raising your rent as long as you keep renewing.

You're physically safe in that area. Just use common sense for private property safety ( lock car doors, etc.) as you would any where else. It's a nice, convenient area.

Those complexes appear to be well maintained from the outside. They're typical rental units, Quality -no, you're not going to find granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and bamboo floors. But they're functional and typical.

You appear to be looking in the $900 range. You might also want to check out the Niantic area. You can sometimes find a smaller, 2 bedroom condo for rent at that price point, maybe even the upper floor of a two family home, although I doubt heat would be included.

Good luck

If you will be comuting to Old Saybrook then it would be better if you looked at one of the apartment complexes in Middletown's South End. That way you will avoid having to drive through the nasty traffic signals on Route 9. You could also look at places in and around downtown. West Lake is safe and has a lot of apartments but it is mainly convenient for those comuting to Hartford or New Haven. Jay

Agree with all of the above. Also look at realtor.com and raveis.com since people in that area use realtors for condo rentals.

I lived at Hunter's Crossing for two years prior to moving to Maine. The buildings are older, but the apartments are conveniently located (easy commute to places north or south on I-95) and very safe. I have a dog and one of the things I really enjoyed was the walking trail that is adjacent to this complex. Very few apartments allow dogs and that was the selling point for me. The apartment manager, Karina, is an excellent manager.

Good luck!

I live in Hunter's Crossing. The only thing I have a hard time dealing with is the dog owners that don't pick it up. Otherwise I have no major complaints.
