I will be graduating from UConn this coming May and have accepted a job offer from a company that is located at One Stamford Plaza. I am looking to get an apartment with either 2 or 3 bedrooms (my roommate situation isn't definite yet). I would like to live in downtown Stamford so that I can walk to work. One of my roommates is commuting to NYC and wants to be able to walk to the train station. Ideally I would like to live in an apartment building rather than a house or an apartment. How much money do you think this will cost us? I will be making around 50,000.. and since this is my first job I'm honestly not sure what I can afford. I was thinking under 1000 was good, but my other roommate said 600, which I think might be impossible. Are there any apartment buildings that you can suggest. I also REALLY want a terrace..

Thanks!

Is $600 just your roommates share or is that the total apartment rental? Same for your $1000 figure. Do you want a $2000 a month place and your roommate is saying $1200 a month is his maximum for a split?

So you're looking for a rental between $1200 to $2000 per month that is walkable to the train station and your job?

Even your highest rent amount will be tough in Stamford. Go to realtor.com and look at prices of good rentals downtown. I think you will b4e shocked at how little you will find for your money. Sorry but that is the way it is in the New York area. Jay

PS - Be very careful when looking. If it is cheap there is usually a good reason. Also watch out for scams on websites like craigslist.com.

Stamford is the most desirable city in Connecticut and it has the price tag as proof of this. However, there are some deals out there, even in downtown. For example, right now there is a two-bedroom apartment on a Bedford Street building, about a block north of the Ferguson Library and right in the middle of the nightlife/restaurant action, that is available and they are asking about $1,600.

I'm not a realtor and I don't know who the realtor is, but check your private message box to see the details I sent you.

Thank you everyone, do you think I would have better luck if I lived somewhere in nyc and commuted? For example would the price of rent (my part of it anyway) and a monthly train ticket be less than 800?
