What is the situation with Supermarkets and Gyms in Stamford?

I know there is a Fairway, but they tend to be over-priced. Anything else? Where is the closest Trader Joe's, do they deliver to the area?

What about gyms? How is Stamford Athletic Club?

There are two Stop & Shop, one in Ridgeway Shopping Center on Summer Street and the other on West Main Street near the border with Greenwich. There are two Shop Rite, one on Shippan Avenue near Saint Mary's Cathedral and the other on West Main Street, literally across the street from the Stop & Shop. Then there's a Grade A in Newfield Green shopping center on Newfield Avenue, there's another supermarket (forgot its name) on Hope Street next to a Bob's Discount Furniture store. There are probably a few more tucked away in other parts of the city, but either I don't remember them or I have never seen them.

Regarding gyms, there is a New York Sports Club on Hope Street cornering Camp Avenue, there's an LA Fitness in Ridgeway Shopping Center, but can only be accessed through 6th Street by the post office. There's also Stamford Athletic Club on 3rd Street, behind a Greek Orthodox church (one of the few churches in the area with a tiled roof.) Planet Fitness is on Harbor View Avenue by the Buick dealership. There are probably a few more, but I have never heard of them. I can't comment on the ones I mentioned since I don't go to gyms and have never been to any of them. I have simply seen them from he street. lol

There's a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's in Darien. Costco in Norwalk

Some Stamford people go to The Edge gym in Greenwich.

Does the Trader Joe's deliver to Stamford. I probably won't have a car right away.

I can always get a couple bags when I am in the city and take them on the MetroNorth.

Anyone with more specific info on what the gyms are actually like? On yelp, the stamford athletic club got panned.

Never heard of them delivering. There's one opening in north Stamford too, but that's not necessarily much closer to downtown.

Stop & Shop delivers via Peapod.

Is that official? Where is the TJ's opening in north Stamford? I could ride my bike there and have it delivered if they are delivering.

Stop and shop uses all the preservatives in their food though. Yuck!!

Stop & Shop does delivery and that is probably your best option (if you do not have a car).
