A buddy of mine lives in East Haven and commutes to Hartford daily for work. I think its a bit out of hand, but he says its not that bad.

I think anything more than a 20 minute commute to work is a little too much, But then again I used to commute to Groton every night from West Haven for work 5 days a week. working at night and driving a VW im sure it helped me.

Im always going to stick up for New Haven and West Haven but if you job is in Hartford id say look somewhere in the north part of new haven, Like North Haven or something. Even places like Cromwell/middletown. Nice and wooded quiet areas over there, but no nightlife/food like New Haven.

Thanks guys...I agree with most of you, i'm not willing to commute to Hartford from New Haven. I think we will take a good look at Hartford itself...along with West Hartford and Manchester.

Does anyone have any thoughts to share comparing West Hartford to Manchester?

Different character altogether. West Hartford feels more upscale in general. Manchester is a bit more rough around the edges and "blue collar". West Hartford has a much better dining/bar scene. Manchester is more affordable.

You might consider Middletown which will give you an easy commute to Hartford plus access to New Haven for a more diverse nightlife. Jay
