East Hartford definitely has its share of places that most suburbanites would consider "unsafe", but it also has alot of great neighborhoods that are just as sleepy and boring as Glastonbury or South Windsor. Blue collar through and through - if you can't relate to that then its not your town, simple.

I have come to really appreciate East Hartford police too, they deal with alot of crap here and are probably some of the more laid back cops I have encountered, compared to say South Windsor, Glastonbury or other more affluent towns.

East Hartford is definitely not that bad. I grew up there, my parents still live there, my sister lives there, and much of my extended family lives there. The Plain Drive area along with sections along Burnside are exactly where its bad, and a small portion at the end of Brewer Street (Main Street end) is a bit rough around the edges. There are many great neighborhoods tucked away off of Forbes street all the way from Glastonbury through Silver Lane. The O'Connel Drive area, behind Goodwin School, all the little neighborhoods between the High School and Silver Lane. Many neighborhoods off Oak Street and certainly along Forest Street. Pretty much everything south of 84 except for where areas approach Main Street.
