Hi does anyone have a recommendation for vinyl siding installation? Just got an estimate from the first company, and it kind of knocked me off my feet. Maybe it's a reasonable quote, and I'm just clueless, but I'm thinking I want to get a second estimate. Thanks in advance
It doesn't come cheap is right! $35K for clapboard, $47K for cedar shake look. Ugh!!
Good idea about checking into companies outside the area. Thanks! Now to just get a recommendation on one.. : )

Guy I used was through my contractor but dont recommend him. Make sure the details come out like are they ripping out the old one, getting a dumpster, are they replacing the sheathing behind the siding and if so, what kind of sheathing are they using (styrofoam, paper, ect), will they replace the corner posts of the house if needed, how about ventilation for under the eaves, ect
And not to scare you but I came across some rotted wood when the old siding came off. So I had to get the contractor to replace a large area of the house with new plywood.
Our quote included incidentals like removal of old siding, daily cleanup, foam insulation, corners, soffits with ventilation, shutters, window and door trim, attic vents. I never had a house resided, so maybe it is reasonable. I just don't know, but I will be getting a second quote. Thanks for the information though.
Paul at D&B Building and Construction did my roof a few months back - solid price and performance. I need to look into re-siding soon and was going to have them bid as well, might be worth giving them a call.
We used Bert Falsetti a few years ago - he did our siding and replaced all of our windows. I've mentioned him on here before - he did an amazing job, was quick, thorough, and the price was better than most other places I've seen. $35k for clapboard-style vinyl siding sounds outrageous unless you live in more than 8000 sq ft with a ton of custom work and odd angles. The 30% increase for cedar impressions sounds about right, though... those things look nice but are crazy expensive.
What material do you have now? Vinyl is a major downgrade from cedar shakes, or painted wood planks. $35 grand pays for painting and upkeep of wood siding for multiple decades!
From a home appraisal standpoint, if there are two identical homes with the only difference being siding materials--- the higher value is always assigned to the one with wood siding. Vinyl is generally lower maintenance, although I am seeing more and more Chinese made, lower grade vinyl which is resulting in more fading, dents. Across all quality vinyl siding, warpage is prevalent after several years.
Vinyl just screams mass marketed, prefab, low end.
Wilton and Cambium,
I have painted wood planks that need some love. Re: painting, do I basically just need to powerwash, then climb a ladder with a rented paint sprayer? Figured there'd be much more too it though. Tks.
