On the other hand, you can't just hold everyone back either.. hard to say what the solution is.

"The top two states for normed SAT scores are Massachusetts and Connecticut."

"Each state is listed with its ACT score adjusted for (controlled for) participation rate. Other columns include the rank of the normed ACT score, the raw average ACT score, and the participation rate. The top states are Minnesota, another stated renowned for its education, and Connecticut (also on the top SAT scores list)."

Yes of course CT is doing well on average - I'm just saying that graduation rates in the poorest quality school systems (the Alliance Districts mentioned in the article) don't necessarily imply that the graduates are actually performing at a 12th grade level. Those schools have a low bar for themselves, which is getting kids not to drop out. Beyond that, they are a diploma mill.

Speaking of Alliance Districts ... specifically Ansonia...did any of you all see this:
Ansonia School Board Threatens Lawsuit In Funding Dispute | Valley Independent Sentinel

It’s kinda confusing, but looks like the Ansonia mayor & lawyers think the money that the Aldermen voted on &gave to schools in the city’s budget for this school year was only a loan until the CT alliance district grant money came in.. no one told the BOE it was only to be deemed a loan, and so they budgeted based on what the city gave them .. now City leaders have pulled $600k back out of the Ansonia BOE budget ..

A lawsuit is possible, which can’t be good for Ansonia economy.. Even though Ansonia is having good growth with newer restaurants I wonder if this potential suit will slow things down..
