Hello

Quick Question for everyone. Does anyone know the condition of Silver Sands Park after Sandy and can you walk out to Charles Island on low tide anymore? My wife and I were up there back in Dec 2011 and we couldn't make it as it looks like part of the sand bar got washed away by a previous storm.

Thanks

It's still there. You have to start the walk right before low tide. I walked out in summer 2012, Irene didn't affect it.

You are not supposed to walk to Charles Island between May 1-Aug. 31, it's closed to protect the birds nesting there. There is at least one sign explaining this. I was there one day last summer and lifeguards were closing monitoring the area.

The sand bar is not closed, just the island. You can still legally walk to the banks of the island, just not around it.

I guess there were overprotective lifeguards there last year then, because any time someone went near the sandbar he or she was blowing their whistle and yelling, waving them away, etc. Or maybe it was because the tide was coming in, I don't remember.

Probably the tide, they're very strict about it. They don't really enforce the island much, I've seen people walking around it in July.
