FiOS is not offered here. It seems like Charter, DirecTV and AT&T. They all seem to offer good deals for 1-2 years, but what is the best way to go long-term?

They are all pretty comparable in price in the long run. They all give you a great deal upfront and then charge more later. DirecTV is satellite so it's a completely different service. It's probably the cheapest of the 3 in the long run, but satellite has its own issues - needing to have a dish installed on your house, weather interference, getting a clear path for the signal placement-wise. If you live among a lot of hills it can be an issue.

Everyone I know has switched to U-Verse from Charter. The customer service is superior, the box is superior, and it seems to be more reliable. I had Charter for years, and while the Internet was generally a bit faster than U-Verse - the customer service was atrocious and I had more outages.
