On a more serious note, i don't disagree with a ban of high-capacity magazines. But, i do feel that it's really more of a "feel good" legislative action. It doesn't address the real issue of the lack of oversight on gun permit holders. The way it is now, it's akin to a drivers license. They grant it to you, and that's the end of their involvement, unless you get caught making a mistake.

I think you need to relax the emotions a bit. That 200 year old piece of paper is the reason we have a choice to discuss this topic to begin with. The constitution is the framework for discussion not an oracle nor does the law treat it that way.

You want to point out people's financial struggle as a reason to pass restrictive legislation? Maybe you aren't aware of how the state will pay to enforce this regulation or how many OT hours will be paid to process the new paperwork. If Stag arms and other companies are forced away do you realize the impact on local economy?

The goal of terrorism is fear...Adam Lanza will win more than 20 lives...he'll win your sense of safety.

We have some of the highest living standards and enjoy some of the greatest freedoms in the history of humanity. You should reconsider your attitude towards the document that has guaranteed your freedom and preserved your opportunity to seek happiness.

A mass stabbing like you described happened in China last year, so yes, it can happen. There is plenty of information on the Internet on bomb making. Many more people are killed every year by knives than by so called assault weapons. The issue is one of behavior. The gun, the bomb or the knife do not kill or injure on their own. They require human intervention, which is where we should focus our attention. Keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill via expanded background checks, aggressive policing and mandatory minimum sentences for those who use guns in the commission of crimes or engage in gun trafficking is where we should focus our efforts.

A scenario -- a right-wing ideologue wins elections, along with Congress. This right-wing nut puts in laws, like therapy for gays, ban abortions, intrusive vaginal inspections, abolishes welfare, bans medicaid and food stamps, deports immigrants and their kids born or unborn, and really suppresses the poor class. Since these are concentrated in cities, while cities have strict gun control, and residents are pretty much unarmed -- are these people supposed to be taking pitchforks against the police? This has always happened in history. Can someone intelligently explain to me why we are exempt from laws of history, and this won't happen to us?

These state laws will be challenged. I think they will be striken down by SCOTUS. Legal action has already started against Cuomo's law.

No offense but you're not living or thinking in reality here. Nothing in that stupid bill is built to reduce anything except the rights of people. Criminals will still be criminals, and most gun violence involves hand guns.

These politicians took advantage of and used victims to push this feel good garbage through. Rather than focusing on mental health, which is the real issue, they're going to pat themselves on the back by limiting rights of citizens who largely are law abiding and responsible gun owners.

There was no debate, this was done in private in the dark of night. They used rhetoric, victims, and even lies to justify this. Anyone who voted for this should be ashamed. Even more so that nothing in this bill would've prevented that shooting. And to take a tragedy and use it for an agenda and go off of victims emotions is disgusting. This state is an embarrassment

No. They're supposed to vote more wisely next time. We have elections with a major policy impact every two years.

This is where "the crazy" begins. There is no organized, armed, large scale resistance right around the corner... but if you did decide to take on the police/government with your AR-15 or whatever you have... You'd be toast.

I don't believe Nancy Lanza was a reponsible owner.

Canada? Canada has way lower crime rates than the US and has had that regardless of their gun laws.

Their health care isn't free, it's paid for by taxes so the people pay a higher percentage of their pay to the government for redistribution. It's not uncommon for Canadians to come to the States rather than wait months for MRI's and some medical procedures......it's not a panacea.

The have low population density and a more homogeneous population. Canadian gun laws also had massive non compliance, particularly in the western part of the country. In fact the long gun registry was a massive failure.

I wish people like you would move there instead of turning the States into a socialist hole.
