I moved to CT about a year ago and im looking for some vacation suggestions. My boyfriend and I are in our mid twenties and my parents are coming to visit. We would would like to spend a couple days in a beach town. We stayed in Newport, RI last summer and really enjoyed it. We wouldn't mind going back, but we are having trouble finding a place to accommodate 4 adults for two nights (Thursday and Friday in June) and not spending $1000 per night.

We would like:
Two beds for 4 adults - it could be 2 hotel rooms, B&B, house rental , condo, yacht, not picky

Can walk/bus to a decent beach or take a short drive without parking being a big deal

Some nightlife - not Jersey Shore club style partying, but a couple restaurants and bars with live music and maybe some dancing

Within 2.5 or 3 hours from Hartford

Two night rental for Thursday, June 6 - Saturday, June 8

Preferably around or less than $400 per night for both beds

Thanks for any suggestions!

Have you considered Cape Cod? Might be light on the nightlife.

You might also look at Cape May? It's Jersey Shore-- But it's really not. Very pleasant and quite... At least it was 15 years ago.

How about Montauk, NY? Eastern Tip of LI...

The nightlife and dance clubs is the hard part. You could browse the website below for beach rentals in Milford. There is some nightlife in Milford and it's close to New Haven for more.

I looked briefly through the listings and there seem to be a few that might interest you in your price range that are still open for that time period.

Nightlife at most of the beach resorts around here tends to be a little bit more low-key. Even on the Jersey Shore, where I spent a lot of summers, there's only a couple towns up and down the coast with that Seaside Heights nightlife. And heck, even that nightlife is not that great.

Maybe Misquamicut? There's a bit of a party atmosphere near there. I had an ex that used to stay here every summer: Welcome to the Pleasant View Inn - Misquamicut Beach, Westerly Rhode Island

I'm assuming you're looking for something ocean-front vs. something in CT?

I really like Montauk for its value and beautiful scenery/beaches. You can go to the more populated Hampton towns for some nice bars. It's low key but there's definitely some activity.

Lastly, I'd maybe recommend Block Island or Martha's Vineyard. Block Island is a little more low key, but beautiful. MV has more of a bar scene and more dense. They are both a great trip and you really feel like you've "gotten away". Block Island is certainly closer for you and an easier trip.

Whatever you do, make reservations NOW!

Thanks for all the great ideas! Does anyone have any good websites to find rentals? I've been using vrbo, but I wasn't sure if there is a popular one in the north east. Thanks again!

Definitely use vrbo. Used it for my last summer vacation & it is really nice to work out details with the homeowner directly especially with cost per night usually being cheaper than going to a hotel. Plus, they have a rental guarantee to make sure you don't get swindled. Have fun!

I second vrbo for finding a quality rental. I've always had great luck finding affordable classy places.

Yea Narraganset and Misquamicut are pretty nice..Cape Cod has some very nice spots too. 3hrs from Hartford really slims it down a bit. Id stick Nantucket in there too. Theres also places like Fire Island off of Long Island that are interesting.
