Yes...I hear New Canaan is pricey....we can afford the rentals...but buying above $700,000 would be a pinch....we don't want to be house poor and want to live..... Orange sounds nice too. This is so helpful !! Thank you
$700k in NC gets you a closet, unfortunately.

I see a lot of beautiful homes for sale under $700,000....in Wilton, Ridgefield, Newtown, Southbury....all over except in Westport or other very high income areas...on Trulia I see many...4 bdrm homes 2500 sf plus....I don't know why we would need more than that....I think you would get plenty more than a closet. I think since we are only in NYC a couple days a week, a longer drive will be fine...an hour and a half drive or by train will be fine. We just want to focus on a safe family friendly area near some good theater programs for kids....still have not found a prof. dance school or competition dance program....maybe a show choir group....I am sure in CT this must exist with NYC so close. We live in VT right now and they have lots of this...surely it must exist, I just have to find it Thank you for helping so far friends

Wilton > Ridgefield > Newtown > Southbury in price. Shelton is less than all of them. Orange/Milford/Trumbull are closer in price to Southbury.

But I was speaking of New Canaan, where 700k doesn't get you anything.

Again, at your budget, schooling, and commute needs, you really don't need to spend that much. Save your money and live in a lower priced town. That's my advice. It would be a miserable commute from Wilton.

Some dance schools:

There are many others.
