Hi, I am from NJ. I was thinking about making a move to East Hartford, CT and rooming with a friend of mine for a short while. She says its a pretty decent neighborhood but I just wanted to get some additional opinions. Is anyone familiar with this area? Is it safe? I don't have a car so is it accessible to public transportation? Thanks everyone.

It's an OK area. There are nicer parts of town, but it's not a dangerous area. It's right off Main Street, which has lots of bus stops and they run frequently. You'd have an easy time getting around without a car.

Here's a link for the bus lines and routes if it helps: http://www.cttransit.com/

Cheers,
Mike

I know the area well and agree with Mike- not the best area of town but not crime ridden either. Many people in the area rely on bus for transportation so your proximity to Main St will help.

That area is marginal. Not really dangerous, just not great either. If your friend is happy there and you are not expecting it to be more than it is, it should be fine. Good luck and welcome to Connecticut. Jay
