Obviously the farmers' markets are a great source of local produce, but most of those aren't up and running just yet. Where do you go to get your local produce or meats? Do you know of restaurants that feature locally-sourced items?

I saw Butcher's Best off 25 in Newtown, though I haven't stopped in just yet. (3.5 month old baby doesn't appreciate spontaneous side trips).

Dressing Room in Westport is a great restaurant with a lot of local menu items.

I get basics at Costco.

Extras and some produce at Whole Foods.

As far as local foods:

In season, I get produce from Robert Treat Farm in Woodmont. Great prices, local, fresh. The Robert Treat Farm in Milford Connecticut . Authentic Family Farm and Garden Center . Farm Share Program in Connecticut

I get cheese, olive oil, dressing, raw milk, pasture butter, grass fed beef, and other specialty condiments from Villa Gourmet in downtown Milford. They carry a lot of the same products that Whole Foods does, but cheaper. Especially on cheese. The Villa Gourmet - The place to find gourmet foods and artisanal cheeses in downtown Milford CT

If I want to splurge a bit on meat, Saugatuck Craft Butchery in Westport is a good option. All their meat is local. https://craftbutchery.com/

I used to go to Stonewall Dairy in Cornwall for raw dairy, but it's a bit of a haul for me now.

When I'm in New Haven, I sometimes stop by Edge of the Wood for local dairy and produce.

As far as restaurants that use local "farm-to-table" ingredients, here are some of my favorites:

LeFarm and The Whelk in Westport (have been to Dressing Room twice in the past few years and didn't love it)
Heirloom, Zinc, Kitchen Zinc, Caseus, Ordinary, and Miya's Sushi in New Haven
Schoolhouse in Wilton
Community Table in Washington

Good to know raw milk is legal in CT. I get it over the border now in SC but was wondering what was available up there once we move.

Stylo or anyone, do you know of any farm up in CT where I can buy an 1/8 or 1/4 of a grass fed cow? I do that down here and store it in our spare freezer. It's works out to be a great deal if you have the freezer space.

Yes, raw milk is very much legal. Some stores I know that carry it: Villa Gourmet in Milford, Double LL in Westport, Edge of the Woods in New Haven, Four Seasons in Branford, New Morning in Woodbury, Chamomile in Danbury.

I'm sure there are plenty of spots you could get a large amount of grass fed beef like that. Expect prices to be a bit higher than in SC though.

Here's some possibilities:

Millstone Farm - Wilton
Ox Hollow Farm - Roxbury
Stonewall Dairy - Cornwall
Stuart Family Farm - Bridgewater (that's the beef I buy at Villa Gourmet - awesome!)

You can buy raw milk in Monroe.

DOAG: Experience Connecticut Dairy Products

For beef, poultry, and pork try Stone Garden Farm in Shelton. They also sell fruits and veggies from April through October.

Come Direct to the Grower and Co

During the winter last year, Benedict's of Monroe held farmer's markets on Friday afternoon.

Another New Haven restaurant that features local produce whenever possible (if it's in season locally, they get it locally), is Claire's CornerCopia vegetarian restaurant. They have vegetarian -and- vegan dishes, and their carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is amazing. Everything they serve that's been cooked, baked, or otherwise prepared, they do themselves. Except their coffee; they don't roast it on site.
