I have had 3 that I know of. A male with a ruby red throat and 2 females. I can tell the difference because 1 female has a shorter beak than the other and 1 has white on it's throat and 1 has speckles on its throat. They have been here in my yard since May. They were also here last year, my first year making the syrup. Last year I saw a baby with the mom. Soooo cute, like a bumble bee. I am in Berlin, Connecticut

We've also got three. Two males and a female. The males are very territorial and it's interesting to watch them. They seem to go through nectar/syrup faster on these colder days than the hotter ones.

I've seen the same one all summer. It seems to be attracted to the yellow flowers. He/she flies so close to the window I can actually see those wings going back and forth a million times. It is an amazing sight.

males can be aggressive and we call their fights with others "Hummingbird Wars". They will race around the yard and even enter our porch area buzzing by our heads. We enjoy watching them do their pendulum flight around their selected feeder(s). Over the years we have chosen white nectar rather than red. Bees, ants, etc don't seem to be drawn to the feeder as readily as when we use red nectar. Anyone else have any observations on nectar types?

I don't have any feeders but I see them all the time at my flower beds in front of my house in Branford. They do seem to love yellow flowers.

Well, it looks like the hummingbirds have left. I last filled up the feeder last weekend and it looks like the water is evaporating. Plus, I haven't seen any at all this week.

Time to take in the feeder and wait for their return next year.

I've lived in Connecticut for 37 years and never seen a hummingbird. I had no idea they even existed here!

get this feeder, called a humzinger.

Amazon.com: Aspects 153 Mini Hummzinger Hummingbird Feeder, 8-Ounce: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Fill with a solution of sugar water, one part sugar to three parts water. Hang outside near your window or slider door. It helps to put out a red flowered hanging plant right by the feeder - trumpet flowers work best, but anything red will do. And I promise you that you will have hummingbirds next late spring. We usually start putting it out in mid April, earlier if it's a very warm early spring. We don't usually see them until late April.
