Stylo, if the office is in East Rock, it looks like you'll be hitting 91N in the morning to get off at Trumbull St - right?

In the morning rush (7-8:30 am), you'll experience stop and go from about Kimberly Ave to around 91 N. It's really not terrible in the morning. In the afternoon, if you're getting on 91 S at Trumbull ST, it can get pretty nasty at the merge from 5-6 pm. Usually this stems from the left lane going to 95 N being backed up for a mile or so, and a lot of d-bags drive in the right lanes and stop to cut over to the left at the last minute - this causes the other lanes to become jammed. Once on 95 S, you'll probably experience a slowdown until you hit Sawmill Road. I would not recommend taking the 34 connector to get onto the highway, as that is a traffic nightmare often.

It won't be that bad if you're traveling during rush hour. If you're traveling outside of the hours I noted above, you should be fine. It's not nearly as bad as 95/Merritt funneling through FFC.

Congrats on the new job! Your commute will definitely be better.

while we're on the subject, does anyone commute to new haven from middletown? would 17 be the way to go? or is 91 faster even with traffic?

Depends on where you are in Middletown. The 1-91 exits are out in Westfield, the north west section of town. All fine and good if you live up that area of town.

If you live in South Farms, ( around Randolph Rd. & below ) or Wesleyan Hills, 17 is probably easier.

Traffic usually moves well on 1-91, Middletown to New Haven stretch, even during rush hour.

Take the train. Parking in NH is a PITA and sitting in the cluster that is the Q Bridge and connector project is just insane. For the cost of a monthly train ticket and parking in Milford you can save yourself in aggravation and traffic headaches.

I did the Milford-Norwalk commute for 5 years then East Haven-Norwalk. Neither were fun and my new commute has me going East Haven-Hamden, which will again change to Wallingford-Hamden with no highways *woohoo!* Trying to get into NH in the morning may not be so bad, but good luck getting out in the evening with all the cluster on 34 and people trying to wedge in at the last second, force merge, drive the shoulder, etc. Just not worth it.

You could also look into taking Route 34 into New Haven from Orange but you would still have to deal with some sloppy traffic.

Take the train from Milford, if you're working in East Rock? No way. Stylo's commute would be more than double. Horrible advice.

Best part about commuting from Milford into New Haven is that if I-95 is heavily backed up (e.g. nasty accident), you can still take backroads into the city. Granted, it'll probably extend the commute, but it's not like the FFC stretch where logical backroads are tricky to find.

Congrats, again!

Yeah - if 95 were shut down, Stylo could go the Parkway to 34 into New Haven.

New office has a parking lot with plenty of spaces...

If we move downtown eventually, maybe I'd consider it...

Stylo, I traveled on 95 S yesterday between New Haven and Milford around 6:30. There was some stop and go between Long Wharf and Saw Mill Rd. It wasn't too bad - maybe a 5-10 minute delay.
