An absolute nightmare?

I've always considered it to be an absolutely 3rd world experience. I think it's safe to say there isn't a DMV in the state that compares with the environment inside of Bridgeport DMV.

You couldn't PAY me to go there.

Check with the Old Saybrook DMV site because I don't think they process new driver's licenses, just renewals. They're no longer a full service facility. They are the office I always use and you do get in and out quickly.

Correct!

Bridgeport/Danbury/Hamden/Norwalk/Waterbury/Wethersfield/Willimantic are the only ones that process new requests: DMV: Directions and Office Hours.

It's way too far for me as well but I make the trek anyway because any convenience of proximity to other DMVs is immediately negated when you walk through the door :P

Old Saybrook, hands down, but they don't do new licenses.

Danbury would rank number 2 for me.

Thanks everyone. I am sure I can decide from what you all posted. I would rather drive farther away than go to Bridgeport.

Based on my experience, I would avoid Hamden if possible.

I am a big fan of the Old Saybrook DMV. Very clean, efficient in and out and you have soccer moms working there it seems and not your regular standard issue DMV employees. I have had nightmare experiences at the Bridgeport DMV, crowded and just a long wait even for the simplest thing. I always praise the Old Saybrook DMV and I echo the earlier comment that it is the best kept DMV secret in CT

They're all tolerable if you go there around 2PM on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. By that time, all the people who got there early to avoid the lunch rush (but got stuck RIGHT in the middle of it) are gone. The people who showed up RIGHT when they opened to avoid the "people who get there just before lunch to avoid the lunch rush" are LONG gone. And the people who wait til an hour before closing, because they don't plan ahead of time, won't have shown up yet. Tuesdays are always bad. Fridays - always bad. No matter which one you go to.

Once you get your license, renewals are available at many of the AAA offices. You don't have to be a AAA member to make use of that service (though it's not a bad idea - great place for passport photos too).

Gee, funny thing. I thought the EXACT same thing the last time i attempted to go to Bridgeport DMV.

2:30 on a Thursday, not a holiday week.

Guess what?
