Thank you for the Income Map. I really appreciate it. I am making a trip to Hartford in a couple of weeks to check out Bradley airport, look around at different communities and apartments. Are there any bad areas to avoid? Thank you for your help.

Well, the Income map of Hartford has now disappeared before I could print it. Please, repost it, if possible.

I think the towns you mention in your OP are good starting points. Without knowing your final work location it would be hard to steer you elsewhere. I am not sure what income map you saw. Where was it? Jay

I am from the Boston area, moved to Windsor in the 80's and now live in Glastonbury. If you want restaurants and shops, you could look at Glastonbury, West Hartford and South Windsor. Some towns are very quiet and I need to be around stores and some action. The airport is easily accessible via Rte 91. All of these towns are safe, in my opinion. I love Glastonbury and the Main st area is growing each year.

Default To. moving to ct

I am from the Boston area and have a son who goes to Uconn, so I am very familiar with the commutes. I live in Glastonbury which has several apartment complexes in town. Main St is growing everyday...many restaurants and 15 min to Buckland Hills mall in Manchester. They also built some beautiful condo apartments right in Mansfield Center near Uconn. My husband worked in Boston for a year while I stayed with our kids in Glastonbury and he used to commute home on Wed and Friday nights. It can be done and you could get a room in the Boston area. if you have any other questions, please ask. Uconn is a beautiful campus.

Everyone, thank you for the good information. I really appreciate it. Glastonbury sounds perfect. I think I will check out West Hartford, South Windsor, and look into the condos in Mansfield Center also. Again, thank you very much....

Are you more interested in a downtown area with nightlife, or a quieter neighborhood? Either downtown Hartford or West Hartford could work. Suburbs like Granby and Suffield are very quiet.

I am open to areas with a nightlife, as I am single, but prefer quieter neighborhoods. I do like to be near neighborhoods with close access to restaurants and shopping, etc.. Thank you for the info. I will check out Granby and Suffield also... I have a few days off of work to explore and will try to visit as many places as I can. Thank you to everyone for your help and great suggestions. I am making a note of all of the areas mentioned so far....Thanks again...

Hey folks! Just reporting back -- We found a place in West Hartford, near Quaker / Farmington and are very pleased with the apartment itself and the neighborhood. It's going to be a bit of a haul for my husband to commute out to Storrs (he will have to be on campus most if not every day, I think), and if I end up in New Haven I realize it will also be a long and trafficky commute. But we decided we wanted to gradually step down from major city lifestyle, so we chose West Hartford instead of, for example, Manchester, which just didn't quite do it for us after driving around and walking along Main St for a bit. We're excited about the move and I'll be back with more questions I'm sure about things to do. I just wanted to say thanks again for all the advice.
