we just moved here to CT and looking to see if anyone has any suggestions for 4th of July activities for a family of four with two young children.

Beaches all along the shoreline do "private" fireworks. It's the best experience IMO. Many of them happen on the 4th. I know in Milford there's several beaches that do them on the 4th. Probably the same in other shoreline towns.

There's also the sanctioned fireworks in various towns, of course.

Virtually every local town will have a parade. Just call any town hall and see when it happens or check the local online Patch.

Madison has fireworks on the evening of the 4th at the beach.
