If it hasn't happened yet, it's not likely. Rents are only going up.

True, Stylo. I've attached a pic of what I think of when I think of a "bungalow". I think they are called American Craftsman Bungalows. There are tons in the Chicago area and quite a few here in Providence, RI. I'm afraid CT probably doesn't have very many. If you think there may be an town/city/neighborhood that has some please do let me know. Thanks!

Default Schools

Like it or not poor test scores do mean something when comparing schools. I generally recommend that a person who is interested in good schools look for those that perform at or above the state averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests. I also recommend looking for schools where class sizes are under 24 or so. Again a town like Fairfield or Trumbull fits this criteria. Jay
I'm not saying I don't care about schools, Jay. What I could do without is the lengthy conversation/debate about the quality of the high schools considering we have about 10 years to go before we need to think about that. What I need right now is to get an idea of what the area is like around the 45 minute or less commute from Fairfield so I can narrow our scope down and THEN I will start comparing the school systems in the area(s) we come up with.
Our family's whole life is about to go through major upheaval, we have to pull our 4 year old daughter out of an amazing school after she has just gotten used to it and has made many wonderful friends to leave behind a life we all know and love. I just have to take care of my own sanity and not get bogged down by high school test scores and what everyone on this forum thinks about them. If I had posted about that then it would be great, but I didn't. I just really wish we could stay on topic is all.
I really appreciate all of the help from all of you. You are all so knowledgeable about the area and so kind to share your knowledge with those of us who have no idea of CT let alone Fairfield County.
Thanks, Rebecca

I think Milford would meet your needs really well given your budget. The high schools (especially Foran) are decent and the elementary/middle schools are great. Your daughter is only 4. There's like 10 years until she will be in high school, and Foran has been trying hard and improving. Milford does have a mall and chain restaurants on Route 1, but aside from that small portion Milford does have a nice community feel with mom and pop shops and what not. I think you would love Milford and it is very family friendly with a beautiful downtown/harbor/duck ponds area.

And if it makes you feel any better I went to a terrible, underperforming school in Phoenix, AZ (AZ having some of America's worst education). But with parental support and motivation, I did well, made it through college and am currently a doctor. Milford's high schools are far from underperforming and being considered bad.

Not to detract from the entertaining perpetual school district debates, but if you're looking for a reform congregation, you might want to check out B'nai Israel is Bridgeport. I'm not part of it (or Jewish), but my friend Evan Schultz is the Rabbi there. He and the congregation are pretty reformed, so if that's what you're looking for check them out.
