The goal post was moved by Ct btw, and now they are finding out how many billions it will cost them to rectify their error and retain 20,000 or so jobs, plus 20k more at suppliers.

I do think had they first addressed egregious state employee cost , they would not face corps saying "enough is enough".

Malloy needs to stop promoting cost increases, and instead, cut internal costs.
I'm with you on shifting to a 401K and health insurance.

I'm not so sure that's so easily done with the current pension obligation and retiree health care structure. And while, there are certainly cost savings, I don't think that's enough to result in dramatically lower tax rates.

I don't think Christie's solution of underfunding pensions and kicking the can down the road is the answer we're looking for.

This is not a problem that was birthed overnight. Previous administrations have plenty of culpability.

There is no getting around the pension shortfall, but shifting creates an end date for replenishing the shortfall. Right now the end game is state insolvency. Illinois may come before Ct, but pensions will lead both to bankruptcy eventually.

Malloy should not have erased all 6,000 pink slips w/o a 401k shift a few years ago, but now he should offer them 2 options, (1) reopen contract and shift, or (2) layoffs to achieve same annual cost savings.

It's just the taxes in general in itself. I mean cut funding to mental health, hospital's, emergency service's. Sure we're the highest per dollar amount a state spends on mental health $100 per peerson, but with taxes doesn't go far.

The state is taxing businesses and hospital's doing well tax less hospitals doing not so hot give them the extra tax money collected from other hospital to even it out.

Roads are poorly maintained it just feels fiances are not going to the right place.

Need to build another community college in the state, revamp the roads, offer tax break for local businesses, have monthly week break for local business (Mom and pop stores) Take off sales tax for a week or weekend start small encourage their growth. Have a weekly summer event promoting towns with festival's, discounts l, event's, attractions, so forth to promote tourism. Have tax free winter breaks for b and b's in the state during winter to promote tourism.

Reopen and rebuild southbury training school. State needs another state hospital for patient's in the area Bridgeport and Middletown is not cutting it. Build a community college in the Danbury area.

Lower taxes on gas...go from .60 cents to .35 cents a gallon for regular.

Lower income tax brackets especially for those under $50,000 tax at 2.5%. Tax $50,000 to $100,000 at 5%, those $100,000 to $150,000 at 6%, 6.5% above $150,000.

Lower car taxes from 7% to 5%.

Continue to keep minimum pricing for liquor and suggest staying open till 12. Increase cigarette sakes tax to $4.50.

Increase minimum wage to $12 an hour. Talk with UCONN about hot job's and program's that have most graduates. Begin recruiting for companies in those areas to move to the state. Work on keeping new grads I'm Conneticut.

Lower housing taxes in the state!!! Lower the Mill Rate below 60% and county sets up mill rates for town's in it's county. Cities over 100,000 in the state can set up own mill rate, but still keep it at 50%...Waterbury.

Work on more public transportation services look to expand rail service.

Get rid of the extra veterinary tax service bill and sushi tax that is ridiculous in the new bill. Don't cut funding to DMHAS or CT Vet service's.

Give cash vouchers to encourage agriculture in the state to farmer's who keep products local.

Stop over taxing hospital's the state is affecting patient care!

Though kudos to the state for going through with the plan for the Casinos it's a start I guess.

You should forward this to your state representatives. It's nice to see someone who actually has ideas instead of rhetoric and can articulate those ideas well.

Because after all these layoffs, then and only then, firsthand, with the anti capitalists realize jobs should not..ever..be taken for granted. Corps are run well, and will counter new government extortion schemes.

Because this was a long overdue reaction, and I have little doubt it will lead to a special session to avoid the catastrophe of losing these great corps. You also will see no new Ct business taxes for decades to come now!

Lefties in Hartford needed this trip to the woodshed.

GE did them a public service.
