Jay, Amazon stands alone with horrific practices. They get away with it because size matters. No one else opens a DC, hires thousands.

You kiddin', Absolutely. I want to see CT have it all.

You missed the point. You said that my premise happens in every state which is true. A small number of ultra high earning people can easily bring up the median/average/per capita income of the entire state. In CT though, there are many more of those versus a state like MS.

And that’s just my point, Connecticut has many more so of course it’s incomes are higher. It’s no different than more comparable states like New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. It’s how these statistics work. Jay

I don’t. That’s why I say we are fine with the growth we have. It certainly makes our state a wonderful place to live. Jay
Did Mass ruin its character by growing its economy with tech and being rated the #1 state to live? They are the third most densely populated state and most of their infrastructure and housing looks the same as ours. You are just making excuses. Only some choice areas of CT really have any character - the industrial center is quite ugly and has been for a long time with outdated infrastructure, cheap vinyl and aluminum siding everywhere, low-rent seedy businesses or abandoned storefronts, and vast swaths of chain store strip malls that rival the South in their ugly oppressiveness. If that's what you call "character" - well, you can keep it

Oh come on now, you are living in the past. That was years ago and much has changed, it had to.

There certainly are a lot of new logistic centers here employing thousands. ADUSA, the parent of Stop & Shop, just opened a massive facility in Manchester. It employs about 500. They opened another similar sized facility in Plainville as well.

South Windsor has so many (Coca Cola, Aldi’s, FedEx, Amazon, Mobis, Vistar and Home Depot, among others) that they are considering a moratorium on them.

Windsor has many as well including Walgreens massive center and has enacted tighter zoning to address residents concerns.

Indeed shows 148 logistic job openings in greater Hartford and few of them are at Amazon. The point is, yeah, Amazon is big but it’s hardly the only game in town. Jay

A simple google search would show you that it is not living in the past and that Amazon still has a terrible reputation for its warehouse working environment.

Most of Massachusetts growth has been in or near Boston which is great but it has created a LOT of problems. Have you been to or lived in Boston recently? It’s not pleasant. If you had you’d see outrageously expensive real estate anywhere commutable to the city. It’s far beyond the reach of most middle class people. You’d also see infrastructure being stretched to its limits with things like overcrowded parks and an undersized early 20th Century mass transit system strained to the point of failure.

I know several people living there recently and the commute is their biggest complaint. One takes a bus and it takes an hour to go just 4 miles. Another traveled 8 miles but the commute was so long and unreliable he gave up, bought a bicycle and rides it instead of the bus and subway.

In fact, everyone of those I know either gave up or are wanting to give up living in Boston. One moved to New Haven. Another went to the suburbs buying a very modest house for an insane amount of money. That’s not a high quality of life, is it?

If anyone here is making up excuses, it is you. Your characterization of Connecticut is so laughable it’s absurd. Have you ever really been around our state? Apparently not. We recently had out of state visitors and they loved our states beauty and character. Sure we have ugly urban areas and suburban sprawl but we have a less of it than other states. Have you ever been to New Jersey, Long Island, Florida, Texas or a host of other states with miles and miles of sprawl stretching on forever. We do not really have a lot of that. Jay

My point was how many low wage jobs income have to be included to drop down the average/median/per capita wage when so many making 7 figures?
