I’d say anywhere in the USA these days, aside from plains states, 100k will afford you a solid middle class lifestyle.

The US median household was $67,521 in 2020. Even with a cost of living differential, I think we can agree that $100,000 is a decent income for younger families. You can call that “rich” or “affluent”, it’s just not “poor” or “modest”. It’s not worth arguing over. Jay

"Data and Methodology
To find where rich young professionals are moving and leaving, we considered data from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia. We defined rich young professionals as individuals under the age of 35 who have adjusted gross incomes of $100,000 and above."

$100,000 AND ABOVE..........$100,000 AND ABOVE..................$100,00 AND ABOVE.

$100,000 is the LOWEST income. Doesn't anyone here understand what ABOVE means.

If the per capita income is Greenwich is $108,000 that means that SOME residents are above and some are below.

In the website I posted $100,000 is the BOTTOM figure which means all the people that are moving in are ABOVE which could very well include incomes 2X, 3X, and above the $100,00.

NOT SEMANTICS.

Sorry, once again people not reading and comprehending what is being said in the article.

I think something is wrong with my browser. On my screen, the post above is filled with red and black bolding and capital letters. How can I fix that?

Some people don't understand or can't comprehend what PER CAPITA is and what ABOVE means. Maybe they will now after my last post.

If the median for Greenwich is $115,000 about 50% make below and 50% above that.

If someone who moved to Greenwich from NYC makes $100,000 or above then 100% make $100,000 or ABOVE.

That is what the article says and that is what Lamont is proud of. I saw the article in a post by Lamont.

Really. $100,000 and ABOVE is middle class?

This is INDIVUDUAL or PER CAPITA which is what the article refers to.

If you are at $100,000 above INDIVIDUAL and you are in the top 15%. How is that middle class?

https://dqydj.com/average-median-top...me-percentiles

You need to scroll down for the chart but here is $100,000 AND ABOVE

2021 Individual Income Percentiles for the United States

97.00% $220,005
98.00% $259,608

Firstly, I’m well aware of the meaning of “per capita” and if you took the time to read my breakdown a page or so back, you’ll see it was in reference to an individual making 100k. If you haven’t read the breakdown, using statistical averages for Connecticut costs, I encourage you to do so.

The reality is that the vast majority of “young rich professionals” are not making seven figures. Heck, the majority of those probably aren’t making much over 150k. We both know it’s disproportionately skewed between $100k and 150k with a few here and there making big bucks. You posted yourself the higher the income, the smaller the number of people making it.

I cannot believe in 2022, someone is arguing that a very low 6 figure income is “rich”. I agree with Jay that it can afford someone a more affluent lifestyle, but the word I’d use is “comfortable”.

If you’re a single file W2er grossing 100k annually in metro NYC you’re solidly middle class not rich no matter the capitas no matter the medians and no matter the town. Let there be no doubt. It is an undeniable fact of life. It cannot be disputed. You cannot sugarcoat it. The decision is final and there isnt anything anyone can do about it.

Yeah, any 100k single or household even in Milford is living in a fairly modest starter home in the ~300k range.

No one would look at it and say, wow, they're rich.

In "The Stub", they're in a 1BR apartment or condo.
