"They said that a so-called Passport to Parks - a $10 surcharge on the current $80, two-year motor vehicle registrations - would not only maintain state forests and parks, but support state fish hatcheries and other programs within the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection that are targeted for budget cuts."

Connecticut does not have the smallest middle class in the country. Have you ever been to Mississippi? Alabama?

Last time I looked, New York had the largest wealth gap in the country if you're using the Gini coefficient looking at income spreads.

Unfortunately, I think CT is the winner in this regard. (largest income inequality in the nation)

This article says Fairfield County, CT has the largest income inequality in the country.

Fairfield County

If you look at state statistics i think NY is #1 and CT is #2 for 2016. In previous years CT was #1. The two states seem to trade off the #1 spot. Which makes sense since both states have a large segment of their economies tied to the financial markets.

CT wealthiest residents are avoiding CT taxes

Key Quotes

"Frantz and others say that Greenwich billionaires and others have been quietly moving out of the state at an increasing pace – taking their wealth with them and heading to states like Florida, where there is no state income tax."

"He noted that Connecticut is among only eight states that lost population between July 1, 2015 and July 1, 2016, according to U.S. Census data. In addition, statistics show that the residents who are moving out of Connecticut have higher incomes than those who are moving in."

"The state's reliance on a small number of wealthy entrepreneurs and investors to balance the budget is not simply an anecdote."

"State statistics show that Connecticut has becoming increasingly reliant on a smaller and smaller number of super-rich investors to pay for the state budget. In fact, statistics show that the top 1 percent of taxpayers – those earning more than $700,000 per year – in 2014 paid 36 percent of all income taxes."

"Connecticut is also facing a broader shift in employment with a loss of high-paying jobs in the financial industry and an increase in lower-paying jobs in the retail and service sectors. Workers suffering from drops in income are paying less in income taxes."

Fairfield County isn't a state. Connecticut is #2 behind New York if you're using the Gini coefficient to measure income stratification.

Boston is claiming the biggest income stratification. It kind of doesn't matter. Any place with a high concentration of rich people is the same way. DC. Bay Area.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Connecticut's problems are hardly unique to Connecticut. The state running the K-12 public teacher pension program and not funding it is a head scratcher. Pretty much any other topic in this thread, you can say "Oh yeah, Xxxxx has that same issue." All the blue states have public sector union problems. Everybody has transportation infrastructure problems. Everybody is being crushed by Medicaid/CHIP costs. Everybody has cities with high poverty rate, crime, and slums.

WOW!!! Still blaming Republicans Gov.................. Of course you won't see any blame going to the Democratic legislature which has been in control for many decades.

Your key quotes are a bit misleading. A lot of it talks about how investors are holding onto investments in anticipation of greater gains under Donald Trumps presidency. Kind of misses the actual point of the article actually. Jay
