Default Connecticut is confused .......

https://www.newstimes.com/business/a...x-12719929.php

We must raise taxes and the minimum wage to do something about our ailing economy.

https://www.newstimes.com/local/arti...r-12717863.php

We must provide financial aid for people who are not legally in the country so they can go to state universities.

Connecticut new economic plans new taxes

Connecticut’s ailing economy — with lower income taxes, higher sales taxes and fees, and radical changes in the way the state spends money.

“Reduce the $9 billion state income tax by $2.1 billion by lowering the top rate from 6.99 percent to 5.75 percent and other rates accordingly.”

“Increase the sales tax from 6.35 percent to 7.25 percent to raise an extra $1 billion, up from about $4.2 billion the tax now yields.“

“Increase business taxes by $475 million starting in fiscal 2020 by imposing a payroll tax of 0.8 percent, with credits for business that have fewer than 20 employees.”

“Eliminate services and goods that are now exempt from the sales tax to raise $750 million.“

“Eliminate gift and estate taxes”

15 hours a hour minimum wage

“Allow cities and towns to raise an additional sales tax of 0.5 percent, tied to shared services with surrounding municipalities.“

Possible car tax increase

“Target annual savings of $1 billion in the executive branch. That’s about 5 percent of total spending, but nearly 10 percent of agency spending after pensions, health care, debt and payments to municipalities.”

“Remove the authority to set pension and health benefits for state employees from collective bargaining and give it to the General Assembly – a hotly debated topic between unions and many tax reform advocates.”

“Create a science, technology and math campus in Hartford, New Haven or Stamford with the goal of attracting a national research university to run it.”

Tolls on I-95, I-84, Merrit Parkway, Route 1 Fairfield County and New Haven County , MA border and RI tolls

I am not sure where in this you are seeing possible car tax increases or where tolls are proposed to be installed. Remember this is a recommendation being made by a group of top business leaders. I think we need a more in-depth review of what they propose before jumping to these conclusions. Jay

The first article is on the recommendations of our state's top business leaders on how to fix our state's economy. This is a recommendation and not law yet. I would think business leaders would understand the implications of their recommendations.

The second article is about students at Western Connecticut State University. It also is just about recommendations and not law yet. I would not get so upset about this. Jay

The $15 an hour idea is lunacy. There is not enough history at best to make an argument for it. At worst it's a job killer. Ask any business person what's the hardest/ worst part of being in business. Employees.
This will cause so much inflation that it negates much of the positive.
Lastly those who need it most, get lots of aid from the government. They usually turn down hours so to get the max aid.
