I was born and raised in Texas, moved to CT when I was about 37. I have been in CT for 10 years. That being said, I enjoy the winters here, maybe because its so different from winters in TX. My Connecticut wife is sick of winters though.

Trust me it is easy to adjust to 70-80 degrees with no humidity year round. The only season I missed was fall, and weekend trips to Alpine or Julien cured that.

One place I wouldn't mind living in CA is the Santa Cruz/Monterey area. But I don't know what I'd do for work.

Amen to that! We visit Monterey/Carmel once a year, and I don't know what it is, but I find it extremely idyllic and relaxing. Then reality sets in and I wonder where I would find work...

Sometimes boring weather is good. Some of us don't need to be entertained by the weather. I could live happily anywhere along the CA coast from Monterey to northern San Diego county. The only thing I would miss would be October.

The problem I've always found is housing. Coastal living comes at a price- a steep one. Would cost at least twice as much in CA to replicate our home in CT to live within a few to several miles to the coast. DH & I have discussed it many times and decided it's not worth it.

It's incredibly beautiful and I can't imagine where you would find more perfect weather. San Diego is great temperature wise by the water, but a wee too dry landscape and can get very hot once you move away from the water. Central California is just gorgeous on all levels. Plus it's not far to hit a snowy mountain in the winter for a taste of the seasons.

While I love some of the area, say Carmel Highlands.. Carmel itself is anything but relaxing.

It's so busy most of the year you literally have no room to walk on the streets in downtown Carmel.

It's really incredibly touristy.. not my idea of relaxation.

Now Big Sur I can get used to.
