Surprised that it took this long. They've been in bad shape for quite awhile: Bridgeport bank fails, deposits safe - Connecticut Post.

I've never heard of this institution but the Post as always pretty much buried the lede with this being the first in almost 12 years to fail.

So the mayor wants to know how the state allowed this to happen. Yet he didn't touch on the fact that his own campaign manager (and school board chairman) has not paid back the millions of dollars this bank lent him.

There hasn't been a bank failure in Connecticut for 12 years because the Feds closed most of the states independent banks back in the 90's during the banking crisis back then. Connecticut was ripe territory for the large banks to come in and take over some pretty sweet assets and accounts. I never believed the crisis was as bad as was made to be and it just set us up for problems of the last crisis a couple of years ago, Jay
