I am transferring to CCSU, so I have to move and find an apartment to save on costs and be closer to the college. CCSU is located in New Britain and I really would like to be close to CCSU however it seems New Britain is not an ideal place for me to live due to poor and unsafe communities. I am open to living in nearby towns within 15 mins of CCSU, so where should I live that is cheap and somewhat safe? Perhaps a good area with bars, restaurants, shops, etc (think as a young college student). I just need suggestions for what towns or areas (name of streets) that would be ideal for me. Cheap rent is important as well but I can get roommates, so I am looking not to spend more than $500 per bedroom. It doesn't have to be a nice or big apartment, location is just a factor here.

Doesn't CCSU offer off campus housing assistance? I thought they did. Contact housing and ask. You should know that the area surrounding CCSU is generally safe. It is only as you go further south that things get a little sketchy. Many homeowners in the area offer room rentals for students so you might want to look for one of them. Good luck, Jay

You don't have many options around there. Downtown Hartford or West Hartford are really the only options for a lively-ish scene. And your budget is pretty tight for West Hartford. You would need 2 roommates. Maybe Middletown. They're all a bit of a commute.

Really close to CCSU in New Britain is okay. I'm assuming you have a car. If so, there are third floor apartments in people's homes in West Hartford that would be perfect for you. People tend to post these at the music school building at Hartt School of Music at U. Hartford because they like the music students. Check with U Hartford, check with the W. Hartford campus of U Conn. Check Craigslist.

What about Newington? Also, yes, the area right near the Univ. is okay and you can walk to campus. The off campus rooms and apartments would probably be listed with housing and they will have been inspected and approved.

Anyone from CT would probably say that its not the "safest" place. Theres nothing wrong with it, theres so many college kids around anything is unlikely.

I have friends that went there and lived right in NB and never had trouble with it.

Those neighborhoods are better anyways because no one will call the cops (EVER) when you have a huge party lol.....

I say cough it up and deal with it while your in school.

The best off campus housing is found right across the street from campus. The apartment complex is called Campus View located at 1412 East St New Britain. They have 2 an 3 bedroom apartments and are very reasonably priced. Check it out.

Drive around near campus you'll see lots of apartment buildings and multi house rentals. Public safety patrols that area in addition to the main campus so it's fairly safe. E biggest news I've heard century is a bear in the area. You can also check the boards on campus, on the website and Craigslist usually the totals say ccsu area.
