Hello,

We've just purchased a home in Ellington, CT and will be moving there from Easthampton, MA to be closer to my husband's job. We are excited about the move, but I am wondering if I will be able to find all my creature comforts that I have in the Pioneer Valley. I currently shop at the Whole Foods Market in Hadley, MA and do know that a Whole Foods is in West Hartford. Does anyone know when the Glastonbury Whole Foods is supposed to open? Would this be a closer drive for me than to West Hartford? I am also hoping that there will be a supermarket/health food shop closer to me that might have some of the products I am looking for -such as goat's milk, goat milk yogurt, and ground buffalo. I drink goat's milk for allergy reasons and so far Whole Foods is the only place I can find it. At one point, the Stop&Shop in Northampton carried goat's milk, but then they stopped selling it (they do still sell the goat milk yogurt, although it is more expensive than at Whole Foods, which is hard to imagine anywhere being more expensive than Whole Foods!). In my internet searches, I do know there are several Stop&Shop's near Ellington? Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, does anyone know of any good health food shops near Ellington?

Any information would be very much appreciated. We are looking forward to being a new neighbor.

In Manchester, the 'Parkade' Health Food Health Store has been an institution for decades- it carries supplements, health/natural/organic foods, some produce, dairy products and more. The store is located in in the Manchester Parkade.

'Highland Park Market' in South Windsor-near the 'Evergreen Walk' may have items you like- it carries very high quality items the larger chains do not offer.

The advantage of traveling to Glastonbury over West Hartford would be avoiding the traffic through Hartford on I 84.
The closest Stop & Shop to Ellington is located in South Windsor. Geisslers in South Windsor is a good regional supermarket.
Price Chopper in Vernon has a large organic and natural foods section.

There are several farms that offer goats milk fresh in Connecticut...I do not have the exact name of the farms ...but I have seen them at several Farmers Markets.....in Seymour....this company also made soap from Goats MIlk. Try calling the Dept. of Agriculture (860) 713-2575.they may be able to help you find even better milk than the supermarkets....in your area there are bound to be a few farms around !

Default Organic AND Raw Goat Milk

Try this farm - we travel for an hour to get this goat milk, when it's in season due to TASTE; my kids won't drink anyone else's goat milk either. I have tried several different farms. www.meadowstonefarm.com - they sell at Farmer's Markets occasionally, and the goat milk is seasonal - but this farm is big on animal welfare...if you visit them, you'll see what I mean. The goats get better care than some people's children. The milk is expensive, it is in glass too - but well worth the money.

Thanks for the responses. We've been in our new home for a couple weeks now and are settling in. I've looked into those markets mentioned and, unfortunately, didn't find any of the items I am searching for. The farms mentioned look great, but still so far away for a weekly shopping trip. When the weather is nicer, it looks like it would be a nice day's out. There is a farm a few doors down from us and I've seen goats roaming around among the cows...so I might knock on the door and ask if they sell goat's milk. The worst they can do is say no, but at least I'll have met a neighbor! Thanks again.
