You can take backroads from many parts of NF to Southeast with little-to-no traffic, consistently under 20 minutes. From Bethel it's 25 minutes without traffic. And you can bet on the Bethel side streets to 84 being more congested than those backroads in NF.

Bethel is my favorite town in that area - I think it's the most well rounded - but I would NEVER suggest it to an NYC commuter.

Agree there are parts of NF closer. I think anywhere up here is a brutal ride to NYC What about the train from bethel down,.how long is that ride? Probably close to 1:45?

ooo..no good. I have to agree the trumbull area is probably wiser for an NYC commute although I do know people up here that do it.

Yes it's shorter but much more stressful .

I just wanted to note that when it comes to special education in CT, a "lousy" school district may actually have a great special program, while a "great" school district may have a marginal special program. If you don't have/won't have a "mainstream" child that needs schooling, a "lousier" district like Norwalk could be an option. I would suggest speaking with parents and faculty in various towns/cities before you make a commitment.

Don't exaggerate. There are good places in the city and you can enjoy city life on top of that. However, decent places will be expensive.
First, decide if you want to stay in CT. If you do, Stamford - Norwalk are good. Greenwich is also a great place but expensive.
Westport is another option (Merritt Parkway) though a longer commute than the others.
If you consider NY, Westchester offers a shorter commute from places like White Plains.
Good Luck.
