I don't get why this watered-down crap is so popular here.

Anyone know of a good place (preferably drive-thru) within the Hartford metro for a STRONG cup of coffee that actually has some taste to it? No, Starbucks isn't what I'm looking for.

Bring back Tim Horton's!

Now you're losing me. I actually find Starbucks to be too strong. I have to get it diluted with a couple shots of hot water when i do get it there.

It's popular because most people around here prefer weaker coffee. I have yet to find good, strong coffee around here that didn't just taste burnt. I'll be interested to know if someone has any recommendations for you.

More of the non-chain places local to south central here have sweeter coffee, it seems. Moderate in terms of strength, but goes down well.

I know you're probably going to laugh at this, but i've found that blending the various Cumberland Farms coffees produces a cup that is strong/not bitter/not burnt. I usually do a blend of HyperCaf/Colombian/Farmhouse. And it's dirt cheap(.99) too!

I'd laugh, but that sounds like it just might work. Does Cumberland Farms do Green Mountain or another brand for their coffee (or do they have their own)?

Green Mountain coffee is generally safe for most tastes. I've never had Tim Horton's, but a friend said they were close to Green Mountain.

It's not Green Mountain. Brueggers Bagels and many Mobil stations serve Green Mountain. GM is "decent".

I do like their coffee. However, they tend to be crowded and are absolutely overpriced.

Any worthwhile places in downtown Hartford or Manchester?

IDK, i know the last time i did a comparison between DD and Starbucks, "normal" coffee prices were virtually identical. And in my experiences, the indies have always been more than DD and Starbucks for "normal" coffee. Indies are usually cheaper than Starbucks for the frou-frou coffee though.

I'm a Dunkin fan. I'll drink Starbucks, but it's not my favorite. I think part of the appeal of Dunkin is that they prepare it for you-- Milk, Cream, Sweet n Low, whatever. I've never considered myself someone who likes "weak" coffee, but I do enjoy Dunkin.

If I am going to sit in a coffee shop, however, it will be a Starbucks. I really like the atmosphere, as opposed to the more "fast-food" atmosphere in Dunkin.
