For reference, my husband works at 57th and Park. He has flexible hours in that he doesn't need to be at the office at a certain time. Makes his own schedule since he sells real estate in Manhattan.

Not from all perspectives. People are just as competitive, and possibly more materialistic in general.

I don't think that Westport is more materialistic than Manhattan.

Even last night I was looking at homes in Westport, CT ranging from 500 to 700K. Do people ever see real listings on willow or zillow or whatever before running their mouths on C-D

Easily, one here would be led to believe that Westport is so uppity that you need a million bucks cash up front!

All of which are tiny or need a ton of work.

Man, they did not seem like it. Or maybe the description and pictures are misleading.

Some may be in decent shape but are dated. Almost all are under 2,000 square feet. It's up to the OP what space they need, how much work they want to do, and also how much a few minutes less on the train is worth. Westport has the commute advantage by a few minutes, but Fairfield offers just as much as a town and is exactly what they're looking for and more appropriate for their budget.

Why not look in the Glenville or Riverside areas of Greenwich? Theres about 50 homes for sale under your price target.

Thanks everyone for all of the input! Looks like we'll zone in on Fairfield and Ridgefield first. We are going to head out next Friday/Saturday to take a look.

That's quite a generalization.

@ OP: 1.25 hrs commute -- is that a train ride or door-to-door? Big difference.
