I try not to define an area of Bridgeport just based upon which one had the most recent murder. You have to look at it longer term. York is a few streets north of Boston, and as i previously acknowledged, that upper part of East Main has been in steady decline, but it's still ok to travel through. Will it be ok to travel through 5 years from now? My gut says no, but only time will tell whether i'm right.

Reservoir isn't declining fast, it has been on a fairly steady decline for the last 7 years or so.

That said, i realize we're jacking the OP's thread here. Let's get back to the OP's issues.

My family and I will be relocating from ATL to Stamford due to a promotion. Initially, we wanted to live in Stamford to be closer to work and NYC but we are having a hard time deciding. We definitely need to be in a good school district (kids 5 and 2) and a family-friendly community. We're suffering from a bit of sticker shock with housing prices. We own a home here so we will be renting before we buy in CT. I'm willing to go 20 minutes in either direction from Stamford, we've been told many times DO NOT MOVE TO BRIDGEPORT and willing to pay about $2K per month for rent. We'd also like to do fun things with our kids and my son plays sports.

Can anyone please help with suggestions on places to live based on our criteria? We will be making a house hunting trip in the next week or 2 but greatly appreciate your suggestions.

TIA!!!

I recommend Stratford, Milford, Orange, Shelton

Fairfield also for cheaper prices Tunxis Hill, Stratfield(They safe neighborhoods with good schools and same for whole fairfield.

Ok...on that note since we're discussing specific areas, what's your insight on Knickerbocker Ave, Stoneridge Circle, Bedford St, Ridgeway St, Fairfield Ave, Main St, Seaside Ave, to name a few? From what I've seen online Strawberry Hill doesn't appear to be a good place to live. Are these streets safe and in family-friendly areas?

Knickerbocker is located in Springdale and is very safe. I know which place you're talking about there. The price seemed too low to me. Note that the description mentions that you may need to fuss with the front door. I think that is probably pretty indicative of the overall condition of the property. Ridgeway is also located in Springdale and is very safe. Bedford Street is very busy/noisy. I personally would only be interested in the Chesterfield condo complex located on Bedford. Seaside is a higher volume road also. The area is OK, but there are many more areas of Stamford that i would prefer. Did you mean East Main rather than Main? I thought Main was just commercial properties? I'm not sure where you're getting the impression from that Strawberry Hill is bad. It is busy/well traveled, but it's safe.

Forget about Stoneridge Circle and Fairfield Avenue.
