The Merritt is beautiful and a lot less problematic and traffic plagued relative to 95. A better exit pattern at exits 40/41 is absolutely necessary. Every on ramp also need to have third lanes for a period of time.

On-Ramps from Norwalk south are sorely needed - are there any plans for it?

Also, on Wilbur Cross in many areas Orange and north there are some pretty bad spots.

I agree...the only problem I see with longer on ramp lanes is when there is traffic, some entitled people move into those lanes, drive all the way up and merge back in..

In Newtown between exits 10 and 11, there is an exit only lane leading to exit 11. When traffic backs up, everyone ignores the exit only signs and cuts back in at the last second. Not only do they make more traffic behind them, they block people actually getting off the exit... I wish state troopers would do something about this.

I assume you are talking about the Merritt at Route 7. The state had plans for a massive interchange to complete the interchange but it was opposed and stopped. They are now looking at other options but you are talking years before anything is actually constructed. Jay

This is really pathetic. It should not take years to complete (or design) an intersection that ought to have been incorporated at the initial opening decades ago. What was the basis again? Environmental? Where were these tree huggers when every tree along the median on i84 and the merritt were culled? Is there really a rare ecosystem along a few big boulders and scrubs along a major highway? Give me a tucking break. truly time for new leadership at every level.

That's very sad. It's really dangerous and I would imagine is a HUGE cause of traffic back-up.

Thanks for the photos, Stylo, they really took me back. A gorgeous stretch of highway in the spring, summer and fall. And thank you, Antonio.

But, yes, it can be hazardous in places. We lost some family friends to an accident on the Merritt many years ago.

Just came across this site... AWESOME.

Norwalk Public Library : Online Collections

Hope posting this pic is ok. Here is the source for the pic itself.

1st thing I notice is not many tall trees around! (A lot of old pics I see actually didn't have much).
2nd thing I noticed is no traffic lights on Main Ave.
instead of Stop & Shop there is that farm house there.
Cool seeing the Factory there as well.
