I'm ready. I don't like this spring weather. I like artic cold. 12-20 days of freezing would be so nice.

Ok, ok, My Silence has to be broken someday.. I thought maybe if I didn't say anything things would turn around.. LOL

Hope we all enjoyed the thaw, lets get busy with a winter pattern again.

We can be dealing with snow/rain showers, flurries, next 5 days but nothing we cant handle.

Something might be brewing for Wednesday where now the latest Canadian model says in bold letters to me "YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT NO BLIZZARDS"

Cold should be coming back and something we have to keep in mind...Normals are at their bottom now, so anything that's showing 20-50 below normal is just going to be very cold!
I'm not mentioning the cold yet since that's over a week away.

But Euro12z meanwhile continues with the 25th snowstorm. I'm liking this one, all others are weak or marginal but something is brewing in the 22-27 time frame. Could it be 2 back to back snow storms? Could be.. Pattern is RIPE for it. Or maybe one model isn't getting the timing right.

Arctic air. Sub tropical jet.

LOL!! Forgot to explain. Colors show temps at 4000'. Light blues are below freezing. This time of year that's sufficient for snow. L on map = storm. With storm there's moisture (not shown on that graphic). That particular run says 9-15" across the state. Shame on me for even mentioning totals!

Talking Points from HM:

1. No major storms, only clippers, the next two weeks. NAO remains positive, so no East Coast storms. However, I can see how one of the clippers brings some extra snow to the Northeast next week.

The Weather Centre has been hinting at this potential for the past few weeks. I'll keep a close eye on updates about this potential storm.

Cam,
when I look at the wunderground extended forecast, it shows that I'm below freezing from Monday through the next next Thursday (10 or 11 days). Should I be excited, or not? Just the thought has me pumped up.

Thats the first cold shot. The real cold stuff doesn't come in untill after that.

Great writeup below from Capecodeweathernet.net
The Party’s Over…

The midday model runs have really just served to reinforce the idea that we are about to go through a major pattern change here in New England – from well above normal temperatures to way below normal – in the next few days.

This stretch of cold coming will likely be colder than what we dealt with late in December and into the first week of January – and will likely last longer.

Today’s 12z GFS and ECMWF models agree on daytime temperatures running as much as 20F below normal by the middle of next week (that puts readings in the 10s by day) as 850 mb temps plummet to -20 to -24C over New England.

And as mentioned above, this doesn’t look like a quick 12-18 hour visit.

West coast ridging punching all the way into the arctic circle will persist for the foreseeable future…which means the cold builds in Monday evening…intensifies by Wednesday and Thursday…and holds strong thereafter.

In fact, there is good model agreement on the idea that next week is the 1st of at least 2 arctic intrusions…with a second reinforcing shot coming down through Canada sometime after the 23rd or 24th of January.
