Cam, what kind of accumulations/timing are you thinking for snow on Monday???
Its that time of year huh. Soon... Waiting for overnight and tomorrow afternoon runs to see the latest. Thinking Monday commute to start will be tricky and slow then rain moves in.

NWS seems to think any sleet/mix overnight on Sunday should then change to all rain on Monday.

This JUST came out 2 hrs ago:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
708 PM EST TUE DEC 3 2013

LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...

DRY WEATHER RETURNS ON SATURDAY AND INTO EARLY SUNDAY AS HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDS ACROSS THE AREA. LOW PRESSURE MOVING ALONG THE COAST
APPROACHES ON SUNDAY AND MOVES ACROSS THE AREA ON SUNDAY NIGHT INTO
MONDAY. A FROZEN/FREEZING PRECIPITATION AT THE ONSET IS
POSSIBLE...MAINLY INLAND...WHERE NIGHT TIME TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN
THE UPPER 20S TO AROUND 30. AS TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE MID 40S TO
AROUND 50 ON MONDAY...ANY WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL TRANSITION TO
PLAIN RAIN BY THE AFTERNOON
. RAIN MAY LINGER INTO TUESDAY DEPENDING
ON THE SPEED OF THE LOW.

They just updated highs for Thursday...looks like temps could get near 60 F in the Tri-State area:

MILD TEMPERATURES ON THURSDAY AS UPPER RIDGING CONTINUES TO BUILD
ACROSS THE REGION. HIGHS ON THURSDAY WILL BE IN THE UPPER 50S TO
AROUND 60
. RAIN SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE DAY AS A WARM FRONT
MOVES ACROSS THE AREA. A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND ITS ASSOCIATED COLD
FRONT WILL THEN APPROACH THE AREA ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND SLOWLY MOVE
ACROSS ON FRIDAY. TEMPERATURES DURING THE DAY ON FRIDAY WILL BE IN
THE 50S...DROPPING DOWN TO THE 30S FRIDAY NIGHT. THERE IS THE
POSSIBILITY FOR SOME FROZEN/FREEZING PRECIPITATION AS THE STORM
MOVES AWAY FRIDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SATURDAY...MAINLY INLAND.

The ground will be awfully warm, no? Several days of upper 40s and 50s then suddenly snow? I dunno, I'm skeptical.

I made the same mistake back in Oct 2011...it was in the 50s all week prior to the big dump!

Messy and Tricky Weather coming up. Hate to use the huge Bias operation of NWS NY but even they are now talking about snow accumulations.

Upton:

BY LATE IN THE DAY FRIDAY AND THROUGH THE NIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT...ENOUGH COLD AIR MOVES IN FROM THE NORTH FOR A POSSIBLE RAIN TO SNOW TRANSITION. THIS TRANSITION WILL OCCUR FROM NW TO SE. LIGHT SNOW ACCUMS ARE POSSIBLE...DEPENDING ON HOW QUICKLY PRECIP WRAPS UP.

DRY SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. THEN SNOW TO WINTRY MIX TO RAIN IS EXPECTED LATER SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT. MAINLY RAIN FOR MONDAY ALL LOCATIONS.

Here's the snow total from the latest Euro and GFS. Keep in mind 3 things.

1. The Euro is based on a 10:1 snow ratio. That means if the ratio is actual less which it should, the snow amounts will be less.
2. This is "Total" amount meaning Saturdays and Mondays after and before the rains
3. This is not a forecast, simply what the new updates are showing

So here's how it will play out. Hasn't changed for days but becoming clearer now.

Thursday drizzle starts
Thursday night Light rain moves in
Friday raining, damp cold air rushing in
Friday night starts changing to snow. Light Accumulations expected Saturday morning
Dry Saturday night and Sunday
Sunday evening snow starts falling
Sunday night warm air rises over top of cold air so snow changes to sleet and ice for early morning
Monday by lunch everything changes to rain
Mid Week Frigid air moves in with 1st season single digits possible

Timing and details of course might change but that's the gist of whats happening.

For those interested or travelling, I started a thread for this storm to cover more areas.. This way we stay on topic here for CT.

There's going to be heavy icing in many areas of Mid Atlantic maybe up this way too. Please post your findings , thoughts, forecasts and discussions.
