I cleared the snow this morning when it was 6 degrees at my house and I didn't feel much wind in the early morning. It was actually much better than I expected! Once the wind kicks in, I am guessing it is going to feel brutal today.

As brutal as this cold is, and perhaps next week's wave is going to be around here, the Midwest will be seeing it much worse. I found the following excerpt in the NWS Twin Cities forecast discussion. They're expecting highs around -17F on Monday. These guys clearly love cold weather!

THE FOCUS ON THE LONG TERM IS SQUARELY ON THE INTENSE...POSSIBLY
RECORD BREAKING COLD AIR OUTBREAK LATE THIS WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT
WEEK. THIS HAS ALL THE MARKINGS OF A HISTORIC EVENT...AND A
FORECASTER IS LUCKY IF HE/SHE SEES ONE LIKE THIS IN THEIR ENTIRE
CAREER.

This is some serious cold...it should mean less pests in the Spring and Summer though.

Agree. I was out at 4:30 shoveling and it wasn't bad. Even with the wind. Of course, I have a jacket rated for -40º so I was actually sweating which was worse. But hype over nothing. Just some snow and extremely fluffy at that.

Looking ahead,
Looks like we got some rain coming Sunday night/Monday with temps getting into the 40s before the bottom drops again. GFS12z data for Danbury, CT

Are temps really going to get as low as -10 to -15 tonight? It's 20 right now at my house, and a 30 to 35 degree drop, while certainly possible, seems a bit extreme.

Next snowfall would be around the 10th after the rain this Monday and the cold temps.

If you believe Accuweather's super long range forecast, after the 2nd cold wave for most of next week we get of week of solid 40s.....

The Weather Channel said Chicago has a chance of a high of -10 or less, which they would be the first time since 1982. As I noted either earlier in this or in the snowstorm thread, NYC itself has a shot of a single-digit low on Tuesday, last achieved in 1985. We definitely (since I think today's low will be under 20) have a shot at 2 days of lows under 20, which I also believe from what I read hasn't happened in years (the last sub-20 low period occurred in 2009, I believe the last year with more than one of them was 2004).

Also, I think on Tuesday we may easily break a lot of record lows. Central Park has an unusually high record low that date, 6 above zero, and it occurred in the 1800s, so I imagine it's even higher for many of the newer stations. Central Park itself even has a decent shot of having its first record low since 2004 (probably not tonight though, record is -4, another 1800s record, tomorrow's is -3 in 1918 so probably not tied or broken either).

Cold Air fighting the Wood Stove big time. Full sun and temps not getting past the teens with winds gusting to 25mph from North/NW.

Those are cold clouds over the Atlantic and the waters are cooling down because the air above it is cold. Still snowing on the cape too

I'm seeing forecasts of mixed precip with snow, sleet and ice now for Sunday night Monday. I should of known better because with a snowpack you don't get temps to jump too high and so I think they stay cool enough to get that ice and mix precip.

We're having One of those winters and its not over. This pattern might let its grip go for a week mid month but it should come right back for Jan-Feb.

Current OBS's. We're about 20-25 below what the normal temp should be right now.
