Current radar & metars.

Dark Blue Flakes = Heavy snow which is being reported from NYC areas while Ice/Sleet in S NJ and Philly Area.(changed from snow there)

Take note of those pinks and darker blues. Banding setting up for NYC/ SW CT??? Or maybe just an area of enhanced precip for now. Waiting for the thump which I see people reporting from NYC

Some impressive "winter" (statistically NWS defines it as Dec 1 thru Feb 28/29) stats from BOX for Boston, Hartford, Providence and Worcester:

It doesn't paste correctly, so here's the link:

On the note of areas already gotten 1-3", Upton raises the snowfall total forecast for NYC/Long Island & Coastal CT. 6-8" in more areas now and 4-6" pushed further south.

No School and delayed businesses is still my thinking. Roads are Slippery with 1-2".

AND HOW MANY MORE TIMES CAN WE GET THIS FLUFFY STUFF? re we in the arctic? Gees! Not that Im complaining....just so rare! And we're in March now.

It's been snowing since around 10 am in new fairfield, but as of right now only about 2.5 inches. Long time for such little accumulation. I guess conditions will deteriorate soon to reach the forecasted amounts?

Default Snow to Liquid Ratios

5pm 2.5" snow total melted to 0.25" liquid. Temp 24°F at surface and low 20s at 4000'.

Melting the snow to find the liquid amount and ratios is so much fun! Have your kids do it with you.
  1. Find an open area on your board (or deck).
  2. Turn rain gauge upside down. Stick it "straight" down (not angled!) gently,
  3. Either clear the snow around it or just lift straight up making sure nothing falls out of tube
  4. Turn right side up, Bring inside to melt. I use hairdryer for faster results
Divide the snow total by the liquid amount. 2.5 divided by 0.25" = 10:1 ratios.

It's actually normal snow but seemed fluffy... The flakes are tiny, that's why I thought it was high ratio stuff.

Just drove Norwalk to greenwich. Merrit was in packed snow/no sand or salt shape.

Right after the rest stop in new canaan I was headed down the big hill that ends with a train bridge going over it and the last exit in new canaan going south.

As I'm going down the hill another car coming up the hill is sliding all over the place trying to come up and eventually about mid hill stopped, blocking both lanes... and the 100 or so other cars behind him also came to a stop. I imagine they are still there... plows were coming from Stamford, but they were blocked.

Yea..reminder . Just fell flat on my back in my driveway. The ice that had melted under the snow got me.
