BDL has to beat -3 today and -7 tomorrow.
Bdr dropped to 5 before midnight and they didn't pass 14 during the day so that was a record too

A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 5 DEGREES WAS SET AT BRIDGEPORT CT
YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 9 SET IN 2008.

-1 here in Wilton. I thought they were pushing it with predictions of -5 to -10 for southern CT. But the temperature drop was impressive last night. Took the kids out for dinner at 5 and it was 9. Came back at 7 and it was 4.

-2 currently here in Branford per my weather station. Coldest reading around the New Haven area looks to be Meriden at -8.

-2.2° here!

Yeah, this is impressive stuff. Similar to being in the 100s in summer. We are near historic levels at least for BDR.

And we're not alone. Its below 0° in Atlantic City NJ. -5° at Marthas Vineyard. -11° at FOK on Long Island. Danbury -4°. BDL -7°

Pretty much 20-35 below normal right now from WV to Maine. Here's a U.S look.

Check this out! Man I love this state for weather. (actually its a love/hate thing)

My favorite type of water effect snows is Ocean effect snow since Lake effect is more commonly used. River effect is also cool.

But how about this! Air is cold enough that the Long Island Sound was producing snow! How awesome is that?

Was that last night? NWS is saying clouds formed over NYC and the CT coast and that's what kept them from going subzero (and in the case of NYC barely into the single numbers......probably didn't get far inland and Newark got down to 5.....BDR got to 3 if anyone's wondering), though I found it weird on your map that Philly itself was over 10-deg and nothing surrounding it was (i.e. Atlantic City was subzero!).

Maybe the clouds went northward and not eastward as Albany didn't get anywhere near as cold as they predicted......Danbury got to -7 though!

Only speculation that far out. My opinion is we have to have a thaw coming up, its only natural. Then it reloads. It's hard for an upper air pattern to change fast. It's not like a ridge can be sustained for weeks now with these digging air masses. It's carving out the atmosphere all the way down south.

With that said.. I think we're in this type of pattern until mid February but I don't think there's a torch pattern coming up in the next few months. So we may just have a seasonal spring at best.(0-1° above/below normal) That's my thinking right now which might change in a few weeks.

The 9am OBS report Danbury at 1°, Bridgeport at 10°. Right in the middle is me now at 11° (9:25). Temps rising fast.
