Waterbury is known as "Dirty Water" to the locals.

This actually true. I was told over the holidays by a friend who has connections that the owners of the Brookside Shopping Center have already lined up a replacement store for the space and it is a much stronger retailer who is willing to pay more for renting the space than Staples was. Jay

I do not think Meriden is any worse than other cities of similar size. I know people that live and work there and they do agree the city has some sketchy sections. They also note that there are many nice neighborhoods as well. I am assuming that Zuzu85 lives in one of those neighborhoods. Jay

CT is the only state in the nation in which all of its counties have a median income level higher than the national median income.

Yes, the outskirts of Meriden, I would say, are very nice. We live in the far north end of Meriden by the Berlin/Kensington line, and we love where we live. This area is right by the 691, the Westfield Mall, and Hubbard park but it still feels private and residential. This is convenience and privacy is not something easy to find in other CT towns. South Meriden is probably the most desirable part of Meriden but any of the areas on the outskirts are nice and safe I would say. It tends to get sketchier the more you go into the heart of the city.

I'm just saying, the thread was "Will Waterbury Ever Revive" and the last 25 posts were on Bridgeport, New Haven, Meriden, and Staples.

Waterbury and many other decaying cities and towns will revive if and when we grow jobs and start to actually produce things needed. Contrary to what many people claim it is not likely to be solved entirely by the private sector since it involves many private and public concerns that need to work in concert. However, without jobs there is no demand and no revenue to markedly improve the situation.
