I wouldn't be investing in downtown Danbury. Other parts of the city, sure.

I grew up in Watertown, and my sister recently moved from Watertown to Bethlehem and she says they are more likely to go into Torrington for large box stores than Waterbury now. And she is right off 63 on the Watertown/Morris/Bethlehem line. I can't believe it, but I can. Waterbury is a dump. But Torrington isn't great either.

Torrington may not be great, but that strip on Route 202 where they have Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, Stop & Shop, CVS, Walgreens, etc is a pretty nice area for most of your everyday shopping. (I think the Home Depot may be just over the border in New Hartford...)

My parents live in Middlebury where I grew up. If they need home improvement supplies they go to Lowes in Southington or Plainville. If they need electronics they go to Best Buy in West Hartford or Danbury. For a mall they go to West Farms of Danbury. The only store they go to in Waterbury is Pets Mart because they realize they need food for the dogs once the bag is empty.

Waterbury is a dump, plain and simple. A few years ago I was talking to my father about how it's filthy. My father was born and raised in Waterbury and loves the city (we still cant figure out why). He told a story about how he was downtown near his office one day and watched someone throw a significant amount of garbage out their car window in front of a police officer. Instead of pulling the car over and citing them for littering they officer pulled his car over and went to Dunkin Donuts. It is a trend that you can see repeated all over the city. Most of the people in charge or who have the power to fix the city wont. They dont live in the city so they have no concerns for the schools, the neighborhoods or the parks. They collect their paychecks and drive to Middlebury, Watertown, or Cheshire.

In order for Waterbury to improve there needs to be a complete overhaul of the city's government to people who actually give a damn. They need a huge cash infusion to hire more police officer to protect the people who would bring business to Downtown. They need to hire more public works people to clean up the streets. Finally they need to find a way to get all the... well there is no nice way to say this.. so here goes.

All the trashy, dirty people who contribute no benefit to society need to leave. They need to stop causing trouble for the sake of causing trouble. Waterbury would be better off if they could just raze the entire north end and all the trash around the mall. Get all the people who live in that area and tell them tough S**T GTFO and go ruin some other place.

I lived in the area and spend most of my life in Waterbury. My father has owned multiple businesses in the are. I used to hang out in Waterbury when I got older and worked in the mall for a few years.

I will never, ever, go back. I will not go near the green without my CW. It's just not safe anymore.

Some people will not agree with with me. But Waterbury has some serious problems with safety and the residents to who live in the area.

The lower class people of Waterbury aren't going anywhere. They're there because it's cheap.

Loews is on Winsted Rd not 202. Bed bath and beyond IS next to Target on 202 though.. agreed Ttown does have all the big box / chains that one "needs".

I live very near there and I would go to T-ton or New Milford any day before I'll go to Waterbury. Torrington has greatly improved in the past 7-8 years and I don't fear for my life there. I think everyone I know has a story of being accosted or vandalized in Waterbury. I'd rather drive through Southeast DC.
