Would like to hear what people think of the South Windsor area, including the schools there.
Thanks!

It's been a while since I've been through the residential areas of South Windsor. It's got great access to shopping at Buckland Hills in Manchester, and the Shoppes at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor. (It can get very congested in the Buckland Hills/Evergreen Walk area, especially during the holiday shopping season.)

The schools are well above average, and (if I recall), the middle school is supposed to have an excellent reputation. If I recall, it's got some nice residential areas, but I don't think you'll find a lot of new/newer homes there. Perhaps somebody that knows the town better than me can chime in with information on residential areas? You can definitely get more for your money here when compared to Farmington, Avon or Glastonbury. The taxes are fairly high in town, though, which partially offsets you getting more house than Farmington.

South Windsor is a terrific deal.

The schools are superb, and home prices are quite reasonable. Decent stock of newer homes, too (particularly along Deming St, not too far from Buckland). Plenty of condos, too. Easy commute to Hartford (I-84 and I-291).

The town obviously has a great deal of amenities, considering how close it is to the Buckland Hills mega-retail area. Proximity to Buckland can be an issue, however, around the holiday season. Just making your way to I-84 can be quite the pain at times--might be easier to head down Route 5 and use I-291.

Wow, living close to Buckland Hills and Evergreen Walk would be awesome...

Good/very solid school system; some newer housing stock as well as older (small farm town that exploded with newer developments- the housing stock reflects that); good recreation leagues/extra curricular activities for kids; adjacent to the mega/big box retail mecca of Buckland Hills (your call if that is a pro or con).
