Unfortunately we lack that balance between price and quality here--which is exactly what Wegmans has going for it.

Ditto!

My kids call it Slop and Shop (I think they got it from Mad Magazine) and I have to agree...... but I keep going back, once in a while I feel satisfied, like when they have nice strawberries that are buy one get one free or .25 kiwis but most of the time I leave the store feeling like I should have gone elsewhere to shop.

When I moved to CT I called Wegman's to let them know that they should consider expanding to CT and Glastonbury's downtown to start. They told me to move back to Maryland where they are opening new stores all over the place.

I am getting more and more fed up with Stop and Shop (Old Saybrook). Yesterday, I opened a Stop and Shop brand of canned chicken broth to find mold growing all over it.

I second (third?) trying to get Wegmans to come to Connecticut! There is such a good market for them here!

I must be in the minority, because I don't think my local stop & shop is terrible (new fairfield). Granted it was previously a shaw's, which in turn took over the former Grand Union. The old new fairfield grand union was Disgusting -- so disgusting that when shaw's acquired the chain, it was one of the few stores in the state that Shaw's completely tore down and relocated/rebuilt from scratch. So the building is fairly new, less than 10 years, and is well kept and clean Produce section is hit or miss, but honestly that's really my only complaint...

That is unacceptable! I do not miss Stop and Shop. In the Va/DC/Md area, we have Giants which are exactly the same as Stop and Shop, just a different name (same logo and house brand and everything else). I have the same problems as well.

I do love Wegman's. I am originally from Florida where we have Publix and that is also a great grocery store as well.

As this thread has become rather extensive....do any of you know of the email for a S&S manager (or perhaps corporate) to pass it along to?

I have no idea if they'd actually care...let alone take action, however.

I sent them an email, and even linked them to this thread. Who know if it's actually read by anyone with any degree of authority, however. If and when they reply, I'll post it here.

This thread is pretty concrete proof that sentiment for their stores is mostly in the toilet.
