Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. I know no school will be free of issues especially bullying and drugs just looking for the schools that dont have that reputation and are known to offer some of the good factors I mentioned. I appreciate all your input!

Amongst the "diverse" towns/cities in NH county, Hamden outranks places like West Haven/Ansonia/Derby. If Hamden seems too subpar for you, then i think you're going to have to make a concession on the diversity aspect.

Good point - the better school systems in the New Haven area (and most of CT) are generally not too diverse - Amity (Orange, Woodbridge, Bethany), Madison, Guilford and Cheshire. In those school systems, the largest minority is Asian. Wallingford is pretty good and offers more diversity than the other schools I just mentioned, though not nearly as much as Hamden. In terms of SAT scores, Sheehan HS has outperformed Hall in Wallingford each of the last three years.
