I will vote Republican for Governor next time around and I don't care who it is.
Section 8 is a federally funded program through the US Housing and Urban Development (HUD) agency. Connecticut only funds a portion of it. It is used all over the country and has very little to nothing to do with who is Governor. Jay

Why? Because they are willing to accept a low income tenant? Good for them. You should know it is not easy to find a landlord willing to accept Section 8. There are many limitations placed on them including apartment size and condition. Plus the maximum amount given is often less than what a landlord will get on the open market. It is not the cash cow some people think it is. Jay

I've never understood how in this day and age of readily available information, studies, statistics etc... that dispell the "welfare queen" myth how so many people still believe in it.

Drive through any so-called ghetto street in Hartford on a Tuesday at 2pm. You will be amazed by the amount of people with high end cars, expensive shoes and jewelery who you know don't work because you seem them everyday on the same corner. It makes you not want to pay taxes because I know our hard earned money is going to Tequisha and her 3 kids of all different fathers.

I'd rather give my money (all of my tax payer money) to the mentally disabled person working, bagging groceries at Stop and Shop because they are working and trying. I was taught to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves. I will always have the back of people who work hard (no matter what mental capacity, color, race or religion). The people who are able bodied taking advantage of the system could drown for all I care.
Actually. No. QOL scales don't measure how much jewelry people in "ghetto streets" have.

If you were taught to "stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves" I wonder why you're not a bigger section 8, and SNAP fan considering over 50% of the beneficiaries are children? Maybe you just don't want to stand up for "Tequisha's" children? Maybe "Tequisha" is working two jobs? I certainly see many people working jobs that couldn't possibly pay their bills...

I find this type of attitude (and the racist dog-whistle verbiage) counter-productive. Sadly, it's common.

Yes, people who want to house the poor are a much bigger problem then people who want to glorify weaponry.

Mlassoff, I'm right there with you. And shocking I know, but the race that has the most people on assistance is actually white people.

In all fairness to Mr. 250, i think he is referring to the one's who don't work and take advantage of the situation. I know someone working construction at what was formerly the trailer park on the Post Rd in Westport. The people there have already begun trashing the newly completed townhouse style units they just moved in to. They stand around all day smoking and doing nothing, randomly cursing at the workers there busting their asses in one of the most difficult projects they've ever been involved in - tight spaces to work, lots of digging by hand due to gas lines, sewer, etc. Imagine sitting in ditch shoveling out dirt around a gas line, and some lowlife blurts out "F you, a-hole"

Maybe because some of us actually know people who are welfare queens?

I'm familiar with the former trailer park too.

I've known several residents personally.

One was a woman who was left with no means and two kids whose husband moved cross country to start a family with a new girlfriend. The second was a developmentally disabled high school janitor (who sadly died a few years ago when he was hit by a car on the post road). Another was an elderly female town employee who made next to no money.

Some people housed there are mentally ill, and most work. Whenever I've been in there it's been quiet and people seem to go about their business. Most who live there are white (my own observation).

I don't know how they'd be "trashing the new completed townhouse units" since they haven't moved in to them yet. As far as I know they're not open yet. If they why would your friend whose "working construction" still be there?

So maybe your friend ran in to a resident who's mentally ill...
Maybe your friend is overstating things just a tad...
Who knows....

In any case, I think I was plenty fair to Mr. 250. When you use dog whistle racism, ill-conceived stereotypes and present the exception as the rule, you're bound to be called on it...
