Yesterday, weather.com was saying 4-8" for my area, with highs in the upper 30s. Today, it says snow/rain/ice and 1" of snow, with highs in the upper 30s

This is S/E Connecticut

I guess we're getting rain in lower Fairfield county at some point? Sounds like a slushy mess.

Morning commute looks to be a no go IMO. Have to see if after lunch it changes over for "couple" hours. That will help plows and main roads get clearer for evening commute.

Interesting! This storm track isn't for you but 1" of snow is a little low IMO. Even the beginning stuff can drop at least 3" for you. Let us know.

If it does changeover I think around lunchtime and yes, main roads will be slushy but remember.. if there's wind, plows will have a hard time keeping roads clean. Then maybe another few inches after the changeover. Have to see where that line is.

Current Temps and Radar. We are 20-30 below normal. 9° here right now with light North wind. Cold air is in place! It's not like it's 20s or 30s out there.

I mean it's 20s all the way down to NC so you know us here in CT are locked in for cold and snow until the storm gets closer with the warm Gulf moisture. Poor southerners with ice and snow again. I had someone ask me few days ago about a flight to Atlanta today. I told them to reschedule. They are happy about it.

"IF" I get 10 inches from this, that will be 2 feet of snow in 10 days time.

But it's still not close to the 60 inches of snow we got in 30 days that period from 12/26/10 to 1/28/11.

See. Now I made this feel like nothing.

Nbc just showed a map that predicts only 4-8 inches for most of the state...

They're still saying sleet even for the center part of CT, but also 4-8 during the day and 3-5 tomorrow night.

This is going to be some standard heavy Nor'easter snow with a layer of sleet in it, isn't it? Ugh...

Yup, start stretching. We'll be shoveling some heavy stuff. I plan on shoveling(and I have a lot) every 2 inches! That might mean I'm out there every hour or so.

Lets pray the storm wobbles east 25 miles+ so we don't get that thin warm layer aloft

Snow total forecast pieced together from the NWS Offices.

Will be back later on... High Pressure is directly over us now. Look at your barometers. Should be reading around 1032mb.

Here's a look at temps at 4000' which will be crucial to watch for the changeover. We are in the pink! That is cold stuff! But that will move out and it will start warming up to normal levels. But the cold surface with snowpack is a concern for ice more than sleet if that pink line moves north over us

Roofs:

Some areas:

Feb 3: 7 inches
Feb 5: 6 inches
Feb 9: 1 inch
Feb 13: ?

Some areas still have 6-8 inches on their roofs which has a 2 inch layer of ice. Temps haven't been above freezing but the sun did melt/evaporate a couple inches plus compacted down.

Granted the snow under the ice now is fluffy but another 8-10 inches of snow plus maybe sleet/ice or rain will add to the weight.

Borderline call there to clean. I seen some people doing it which is always a safe thing to do.
