I think the what you are not realizing is that the property values themselves are partly driven by supply and demand of real estate due to tax policy itself.

As a result, the only thing that really matters is the state average taxing and statewide tax relative to other states, which shows Connecticut is in good shape because a size-able wealthy group can afford it or sees Connecticut as cheap when compared to nearby Manhattan island costs of living.

Wealth correlated to high tax areas and it's that way in Northern California as well as Northern Europe and Tokyo Japan as well.

Op, if you move to ct and want to live in a comprable town, you will most likely pay more for it than where you are. How much more depends on the town.

Lots of Texas may be cheap, but the supply of houses for people who are used to CT neighbors and amenities are very limited. These properties were probably hundreds of thousands of dollars cheaper 5-10 years ago and prices continue to rise rapidly. Most Northerners' idealistic perceptions of TX are several years outdated.
LOL, seriously? Why can you get a beautiful, brand new house in The Woodlands (low crime, good schools, one of the most affluent in TX) then for 300k? Way to cherry pick.

And according to google maps that second house is about 6000 ft from the center of the city too. There is no city in CT to even compare it to, and not really sure what other cities would be comparable to Austin, but I bet houses go for the same price or more.

It sounds like you all have spent an extensive amount of time in Texas. Knock yourself out and move to McKinney, and enjoy your particle board house and brown lawn.

I've been to Mckinney. It's appropriate that it begins with Mc.... It's the most McSuburb I have ever seen. Chain stores and strip malls as far as the eye can see. KB homes made of cardboard. Mega churches. It's not for me. It is inexpensive for the most part, but thats about it. You get what you McPay for.
