I REALLY need some help. My family and I will be moving to CT later this summer. Problem is the house we are having built in Tolland, will not be finished by the time school starts in late August. Since we will have to put all our possessions in storage, we will need to find a furnished, short term, 2-3 bedroom rental place. Even harder yet, we need to find a place that will take our 2 dogs, one is a Dachshund/Jack Russell mix, the other is a small size German Shepherd who is the sweetest, quietest dog I have ever met. Unfortunately, some places have consider Shepherds to be dangerous dogs, and ban them. She is a rescue who has been abused, and is a fearful girl, so there is no way we could board her. Plus our two dogs are a bonded pair, so they need to stay together.

All that being said, does anyone know of any possible short term rental properties on the east side of Hartford that are not too far from Tolland? Or even a real estate agent who deals with rentals?

Thanks,
Tracey

Why not find an unfurnished place and only keep the things that don't fit in storage? It'll be very hard to find a furnished place to begin with (in all the times I've moved, I saw maybe one), and if it is furnished, I highly doubt anyone would then allow dogs/pets.

Might want to check Craigslist, or consider a pet friendly hotel/Extended Stay-type place for the few weeks you'll be stuck.

You could try this place in Rocky Hill. Yes, the other side of the river, but it's close enough to the bridge and other wise seems to have what you need.

It advertises itself as furnished, short term and permits dogs both large & small. Check on all of that though as sometimes what shows on the internet is not necessarily true

Alterra Apartments, Rocky Hill- 719 Brook St.

We thought about getting an unfurnished place, but the cost of having to have someone unload and then repack and load, to unload again at the house (and also pay someone else to unload the rest of the stuff in storage) within a month or two time span would be far too costly. No family in the area and we know no one in CT, so moving ourselves is not a option either. Not crazy about getting a furnished place, but for that short time, it would make things less chaotic and stressful.

Willow wind, thanks for the suggest, will have to look into it.

I am not familiar with Tolland but maybe you could find a vacation rental or a hunting cabin. They are usually furnished and might offer a monthly rental. Try the vacation rental website VRBO, Flipkey ect.

Good Luck!

I think your best option would be a nearby extended stay type hotel. Some have rooms that allow pets.

Marylandmom2011, I had the same idea, but I couldn't find any "vacation" rental anywhere close to Tolland or even Hartford. They are only down along the coast, which won't work because we will have to drive the girls to their schools.

Parentologist, I actually stayed in one of those in Manchester when I was up there in January to meet with the builder. But at $100-$150 a night, that would add up to some serious $$$$ to stay there for a month or two.

Try river Bend in Windsor, they have furnished 2 bedroom town houses and allow small dogs.

Try out the link I posted, hopefully it will load, it show the properties on a map. There are a few in Coventry on a lake and couple of others that might work. You would have to work with the owners but who knows, some of them looked nice, peaceful and tranquil......

See if they have a rate for a very long stay, such as 2+ weeks. They might bring it down if you pay up front or tell them ahead of time you're staying that long. Surprised at that price, too, I've seen some CT hotels for $60-80 a night, which would end up being about $2400 a month.
