What would be the easiest and cheapest route for getting from Torrington to Herald Square on Thursday for a job interview? The interview isn't until 3pm, so I won't be commuting during rush house. I've only ever taken the train from New Haven, but their parking can be kind of costly...

So curious which station would be best to depart from in terms of ease and cost of parking. Metro North doesn't have a stop at Penn Station, correct? So take it to Grand Central and then take the subway?

My relatives in NYC take the train to and from Waterbury to visit the folks in Torrington. I am not sure which line this is.

I would do Bridgeport down route 8. Plenty of parking and not too long of a ride.

New Haven would be backtracking from Torrington.

Metro North stops at Grand Central. You can do subway or cab from there.

You can drive to one of the Harlem line stations in NY (Southeast will probably be easiest/cheapest to park at), take metro North to GCT, and then subway it.

I live near Torrington and typically drive to Bridgeport and pick up the Metro North there. Service on the Waterbury line is too infrequent to make it convenient.

Agree.

If the OP wants Penn, she could take Amtrak from the Bridgeport station. I'd have to guess that going into GC via MNR, and then taking a cab would still be cheaper than Amtrak. I can't say definitively though.

Yeah, cab would be cheaper - subway is way cheaper. Amtrak is not cost effective unfortunately.

If there is traffic, maybe an extra 5-10 minutes as 95S through Stamford isnt that bad until rush hour.

How can the OP do it in one hour--- the trip is 110 miles!!!!

I travel from Thomaston to NYC frequently. I usually take the train from Fairfield to GC. Lots of safe, well lit parking ($6.00). Herald square is only about 6 blocks away. Easily can be walked in 15 minutes. Enjoy the walk!
If you decide to drive, I take I-84 to 684 to exit 5, Saw Mill, which changes into the Henry Hudson Parkway (9A south). Brings you right down along side of Manhattan, and only 1 toll. You can turn left onto W34th then up to Ave. of the Americas. Herald Square is right there. It will be a 2 hour ride. . Plenty of parking, but we use Central Parking. Discount coupons are available on their website. Big savings. Hope this helps.

I would drive to Hartford and take the Megabus from the Morgan St garage. The newer buses have free wifi and charging outlets. The drop off zone is also further downtown than GC.
