Pros and cons of each. I've seen meriden's homes are of lower value and also that their schools aren't as great

This is a no brainer. Meriden is one of the lowest income towns in the state with low performing schools.

Agreed much better schools, and you'll also get much better resale value in Southington.

Also, Southington is safer overall than Meriden. Not that there aren't safe areas in Meriden, but pretty much all of Southington is safe. Looking up statistics, Southington's crime rate is much lower, and most (over 90%) of the crime there is larceny & burglary. Most of the crime in Meriden is also larceny/burglary (80%), but more serious crimes are also more common.

Home values are always lower for a reason. Meriden's are lower as its schools underperform, it has a rather unsavory reputation as far as crime is concerned, its town center leaves much to be desired IMO.

Meriden has some very nice areas in the western section of town around Hubbard Park and in the extreme east side of town. But the more densely developed core center of the town is mostly those of very low socio-economic status with the resultant problems that go with poverty.

If don't need to use the school system you might consider Meriden. If you need schools, keep looking in Southington. Meriden is also a much harder resale when it comes time to sell.

I'm trying to think of a pro for Meriden. Can't think of a single one.

Convenient location between Hartford and New Haven, and also not a bad ride to Waterbury.

That's about it.

A pro for Meriden is that the homes are cheaper. But have a fun time selling it!
